The KJ Harrison saga continues!

February 24, 2015

Happy Wednesday, everyone. We hope you are still enjoying our unbelievable weather.

--------------------------------------------

OK, we can't help ourselves. We have even more updates about Oregon State freshman and 2014 Knights' signee KJ Harrison. He just can't stay out of the news.

The infielder/catcher was named the Pacific-12 Conference Player of the Week on Monday and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week on Tuesday for the week of Feb. 17-23.

Harrison was 10-for-22 (.455) in five games in Suprise, Ariz., with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBIs. He hit safely in all five games to extend his hit streak to eight games, and had four multi-hit games.

Harrison is leading the Beavers with a .441 average through the first eight games. He's tied for second in the nation with four home runs; his 13 RBI are fourth. He leads the Pac-12 in both categories.

As we said on Monday, he has to come down to Earth at some point. But we are really looking forward to seeing him in person this coming weekend when the Beavers open their home schedule against Grambling State at Goss Stadium with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.

-------------------------------------------

Alum Chris Haddeland (2014) of Linfield was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Monday. Alum Sean Eberhardt (2013-14) of George Fox was nominated, but not selected.

Haddeland threw a complete-game shutout, the 16th of his career, as Linfield blanked PLU 3-0 in its Northwest Conference opener. Haddeland had eight strikeouts, did not issue a walk, and spaced seven hits.

---------------------------------

Alum Joe Duffin (2013-14) of Cypress CC is off to a great start at UConn, where he transferred for his junior/senior seasons. Duff is hitting .438 (7-16) in six games, with three doubles, a homer, nine RBIs and an .813 slugging percentage.

Joe will play for the Rochester (Minn.) Honkers in the Northwoods League this summer. Here is more on that story, from the team's website. Best of luck to big Joe, a big bopper for us the past two summers. Hope he likes humidity!

---------------------------------------------

The Bellingham Bells have signed pitcher Justin Blatner and catcher Joey Harris of Gonzaga for the 2015 season, the team announced. Here is more on that story, from the Our Sports Central website.

More heroics from 2015 Knight KJ Harrison

February 22, 2015

Happy Monday, everyone. Hope you all had a great weekend.

-----------------------

I know it seems as if we are writing about Oregon State freshman and 2014 Knights' signee KJ Harrison almost every day, but what can we say? Every day the catcher/first baseman from Hawaii provides another highlight.

Harrison had a grand slam, a double, scored twice and drove in five runs on Sunday as the Beavers concluded their 8-game stay at Surprise Stadium in Arizona with a 15-5 win over Kansas. OSU went 5-3 in those games and Harrison was the big story.

He is now hitting .441 (15-34) in eight games, with four homers, two triples, two doubles and 13 RBIs. He has scored eight times, has a .971 slugging percentage, and a .500 on-base percentage.

Obviously he has to come down to Earth at some point. But we are really looking forward to seeing him in person this coming weekend when the Beavers open their home schedule against Grambling State at Goss Stadium.

-------------------------------------------

Speaking of Goss Stadium, we stopped by there on Sunday morning and it looks spectacular. The new synthetic turf is all in; the view from the new "Banners" hospitality deck is awesome; new iron railings are being installed on the stairwells throughout the concourse that look better and improve the sightline from the upper grandstand, and the main lobby concession area is being upgraded.

Suffice it to say, Goss Stadium will look much different for our June 3 opener than it did back in August, when we closed our 2014 home season by defeating Bellingham in Game 1 of the West Coast League Championship Series!

------------------------------------

You may have already seen it on the homepage of our website, but here is a story on coach Brooke Knight's season with the Adelaide Bite in the Australian Baseball League.

The Bite won the regular-season title but lost 2-1 to Perth in the Championship Series. Alums Rocky Gale (2007, 2009) and Colin Feldtman (2013) of the Portland Pilots played for the Bite. Brooke is back in the states now and looking forward to his eighth season with the Knights.

----------------------------------

The Walla Walla Sweets have signed Pepperdine infielder Nick Costello and high school senior pitcher Easton Lucas for the upcoming season. Here is more on that story, from the Our Sports Central website.

----------------

That is all for today. Have a great day and we will see you on Wednesday.

Two Oregon State players with ties to the Knights had big days on Thursday as the Beavers edged Oklahoma State 5-3 at Surprise, Ariz.

Future Knight K.J. Harrison, a freshman who is off to a great start, was 3-for-5 with a run scored. He is hitting a whopping .476 (10-21) in five games, with two homers and five RBIs. He sounds like a must-see player.

Alum Logan Ice (2014) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Logan is also off to a good start, hitting .333 (4-12) in four games, with two RBIs.

----------------------------------

A change of scenery from OSU to Concordia is working wonders for alum Nate Esposito (2012), as he is off to a great start with the Cavs. Nate is hitting .383 (11-28) in eight games, with three doubles and six RBIs. A senior catcher, he transferred to Concordia for his final season after three years with the Beavers.

-----------------------------------

The Klamath Falls Gems have signed pitcher Jake Repavich of Cienega High School in Vail, Ariz., an incoming freshman at Grand Canyon University, and University of Portland junior outfielder Grant Taylor for the 2015 season. Here is more on that story, from the Klamath Falls Herald and News newspaper.

Knights new logo, colors a big hit

February 13, 2015

Happy Friday, everyone.

------------------------

It was a great night on Thursday at the "Knights Refreshed Brand Unveiling" party at The Vue in downtown Corvallis. Several hundred of our fans turned out for the release of our new logo and colors.

Judging by their reaction when the logo was unveiled, it should be a big hit this summer; lots of cheers, clapping and positive reactions when president Dan Segel released it to the public.

For more on the story, please click here and get the full details from our newly-redesigned website, which also looks very sharp.

---------------------------

Many alums/future Knights in action on Thursday in Corban's 9-8 win over George Fox. GFU scored six runs in the ninth to turn a blowout into a nail-biter before it finally ended.

For Corban, Marc Gallegos (2012, 2014) was 2-for-5 with a homer, a double, two runs and two RBIs and Hayden Calvert (2015) was 0-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Division I games start today and we will have periodic updates on all of our "big-time" Knights throughout the college season, too.

------------------------------------

Alum Chris Haddeland (2014) of Linfield was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Haddeland threw seven scoreless innings to earn Linfield's first victory of the season and the 28th of his career, defeating Texas-Dallas 6-0 to move into a tie for the second-most victories in program history.

Haddeland was the only NCAA Division III player to receive such recognition. He is a two-time All-American and previous winner of the Northwest Conference, All-West Region and National Pitcher of the Year award.
