Andy Rojo To Accept Coaching Position with NCAA DI University

Matt Dorey of Washington State Takes the Helm. To Skipper Knights in Their Inaugural Season in Corvallis. The Corvallis Knights announced Monday that Matt Dorey of Washington State would replace Andy Rojo of Riverside (Ca) Community College as the team's field manager for the club's inaugural season in Corvallis. Matt signed on this off-season to be the team's head assistant coach. Rojo is expected to accept an assistant coaching offer from a Division I West Coast University. His recruiting duties won't allow him to coach this summer.

Dorey also recently accepted the head coaching job at Mt. Hood Community College.

Matt has three years head coaching experience in summer baseball. He managed the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League last summer and the two prior summers he managed the Knights' affiliate summer collegiate league team the Mt. Hood Cardinals. Mat-su went 20-15 under Dorey and featured Oregon State pitchers Daniel Turpen, Mark Grbavac and Greg Keim.

Prior to coaching at WSU, Dorey spent two seasons at Mt. Hood C.C. as an assistant coach under Gabe Sandy. Sandy, who was the Knights head assistant coach the past two summers, left Mt. Hood before the 2007 season to scout for the Florida Marlins. Ex-Knights skipper Dale Stebbins filled in this spring as Mt. Hood's interim manager.

Dorey played his college baseball at Mt. Hood ('93-94) and Portland State ('95-96). As a senior, he was the Vikings team captain and was named All-Pac-10 North and team MVP.

Matt was a guest of the KEJO 1240 Joe Beaver Show Friday, May 11. He was interviewed by the Voice of the Beavers (and Knights) Mike Parker and gave great insight into the upcoming Cougars/Beavers series and Knights season.

"Matt brings great energy and thought to this position. He's baseball savvy, aggressive and committed to development. We know Matt and are confident he'll do a great job this summer. While this is a late move, we're very pleased and also happy for Andy," said team president Dan Segel.

Dorey finishes his two-year coaching stint at Washington State this weekend at UC-Davis.
