Eight Corvallis Knights Earn All-Star Spots.

Eight members of the Corvallis Knights have been selected to play in the West Coast League All-Star Game, set for July 26 at Goss Stadium.

Pitchers Jace Fry of Southridge High School (1-1, 1.69), Chase Johnson of Cal Poly (1-1, 2.95), Dylan Stuart of UC Riverside (2-1, 0.95), Mark Trentacosta of UC Irvine (2-1, 2.18, 7 saves) and Ben Wetzler of Oregon State (0-0, 0.00, 1 save) will represent the Knights, as will first baseman Sean Myrom of Concordia (.290, 10 doubles, 1 HR, 13 RBI), third baseman Jimmy Allen of Cal Poly (.216, 12 RBI) and shortstop Trent Oleszczuk of Seattle University (.272).

The West team will be coached by Corvallis manager Brooke Knight. Wenatchee's Ed Knaggs will direct the East team.

The game will start at 7:15 p.m., preceded by a Home Run Derby at 5:30 p.m. and followed by a fireworks display. Gates open at 5 p.m.; tickets are $10 for reserved seats and $5 for general admission.

Fans picked one player from each team. The other stars were selected by the league coaches and the Major League Scouting Bureau.

In addition to the Knights, the West team includes outfielder Kyle Garlick of the Cowlitz Black Bears, a rising sophomore at Oregon and a recent WCL Player of the Week honoree. He is second in the WCL batting race with a .350 average and ranks third with 21 RBIs. Garlick is one of seven Black Bears selected.

The East team includes 10 members of the division-leading Wenatchee AppleSox, including pitcher Owen Jones of Portland, who has a league-high five wins.

Jones is one of three University of Portland players slated to appear in the WCL's midsummer classic.
