Cardinals Advance to World Series Thanks to Bullpen

Ex-Knight Southpaw Marc Rzepczynski of St. Louis Earns NLCS Clinching Win.

Ex-Knights' ace Marc Rzepczynski of the St. Louis Cardinals earned the National League Championship Series clinching win in relief last night as the Cards beat the Milwaukee Brewers 12-6 at Miller Park to advance to the World Series.

Rzepczynski was one of many St. Louis relievers who shined brightly in the NLCS. Marc appeared five times vs. Milwaukee, allowing only one run over 4 2/3 innings pitched while striking out 4.

He tossed 2 1/3 innings last night to earn the win.

The Yorba Linda, California native went 1-0 and posted a 1.93 ERA in the NLCS.

Zep started the season with the Toronto Blue Jays, but was acquired in a trade with St. Louis on July 27th.

Overall, Marc made 71 big league relief appearances this season, going 2-6 with a 3.34 ERA while striking out 61 over 62 innings pitched.

The lefty struck out 28 over 22 2/3 innings pitched with the Cardinals.

Rzpeczynski was the Knights' ace in 2006, as the UC Riverside senior-to-be went 6-0 with a 2.25 ERA and struck out 58 over 52 innings pitched.

Marc was named second-team All-WCCBL and earned Knights' Top Pitcher honors.
