Big game at Goss Stadium on Wednesday night. We rallied to defeat Cowlitz 3-2, and we moved into a tie for first place in the West Coast League's wild-card race.

We will try to win the series tonight in Game 3, set for 6:40 p.m. at Goss Stadium. It's a Block 15 Thursday and Barker Uerlings Insurance Reusable Grocery Tote Bag Night. Wednesday's crowd of 1,359 increased the season attendance to 35,548 in 25 dates. We are 4,557 fans ahead of their 2014 total through a corresponding number of openings.

The San Francisco Giants optioned alum Josh Osich (2008), a left-handed reliever from Oregon State, back to triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Veteran reliever Jeremy Affeldt was activated from the DL and took Osich's spot on the 25-man roster.

Osich was 1-0, had six strikeouts and did not allow an earned run in 7.1 innings in nine appearances. The three runs he did allow were unearned, owing to an error by former Knight Matt Duffy (2010).

"He'll be back up here," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said of Osich. "I told him, 'You should be proud of where you are.' He has played his way back into being a top prospect for us."

Bend outfielder Christian Cavaness has signed with the Minnesota Twins and has left the team. He hit .322 in 32 games, with three homers and 17 RBIs.

An NAIA All-American at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Illinois, he is the school's all-time leader in home runs, triples, RBIs and total bases. He will report to Fort Meyers, Fla., in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League.

The Victoria HarbourCats have signed Victoria native Eric Hegadoren, a 6-foot-9 right-hander from Yavapai College. Hegadoren, who pitched for the HarbourCats in 2014, will be a reliever for the remainder of the regular season.

He joined the team in time for its ongoing series against Bellingham. He played for the Victoria Eagles Provincial Baseball League program before heading to Yavapai, located in Prescott, Ariz.

El Paso (AAA Pacific Coast, Padres) catcher Rocky Gale (2007, 2009) was 2-for-6 with two runs, a double and three RBIs in a 15-2 win over Sacramento on Wednesday night to earn Corvallis Knights Minor League Player of the Day honors. He is hitting .328.

Honorable mention goes to:

* Tri-City (A Northwest, Diamondbacks) shortstop Peter Van Gansen was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in a 4-2 win over Salem-Keizer.

* Bluefield (R Appalachian, Blue Jays) first baseman Gabe Clark was 1-for-5 with two RBIs and his third homer in a 6-5 win over Greeneville.

Tough night at Goss Stadium on Tuesday, as we fell 12-1 to Bend in Game 1 of our West Coast League divisional series with the Elks. We are now one game away from elimination and the end of our season.

Game 2 is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend. Alex Nesbitt of Washington (3-2, 2.77) will start for Corvallis, opposed by Portland's Jordan Wilcox (3-2, 3.78) in a matchup of right-handers.

Tune into KEJO-AM 1240 and listen to Mike Parker on the mic for all the action.

If the Elks win, they sweep the series and advance to the WCL Championship Series for the first time since 2010 and only the second time in history. If the Knights prevail, we stay in contention for our eighth championship appearance and a decisive Game 3 will be played at 6:35 p.m. Thursday. Possible starters for a potential rubber game have not been announced.

The Championship Series starts Saturday at the lower-seeded team�s venue. Sunday is a travel day; Game 2 would be Monday and Game 3, if necessary, would be played on Tuesday.

Alum Bud Norris (2005), released by Baltimore last week, has signed with the San Diego Padres and has been added to their 25-man active roster. He has a lifetime 55-66 record in all or part of eight major-league seasons with Baltimore and Houston, who drafted him out of Cal Poly in 2006.

More good news to report on the major-league front concerning a Knights' alum.

* Tampa Bay has recalled pitcher Matt Andriese (2009), the 2009 West Coast League Pitcher of the Year, from Durham of the triple-A International League. It's his third stint in the majors this season and with rosters being expanded to 40 players on Sept. 1, there's a good chance he�ll be in the bigs for the rest of the year.

He is 3-3, 3.19 in 13 games with the Rays, with 34 strikeouts in 48 innings.

Matt is the third alum to be added to a big-league roster this week. San Francisco activated catcher Andrew Susac (2009) from the DL and recalled him from the minors after a short injury rehab stint in San Jose and Sacramento, and Toronto recalled first baseman Matt �Slider Guy� Hague (2005) from triple-A Buffalo.

Wenatchee outfielder Keston Hiura was named to a first-team Perfect Game All-America on Wednesday. He was the only WCL player selected to the first-team.

The Victoria HarbourCats have signed outfielder Matt Smith of the Sacramento State Hornets for the 2016 season. Bowling Green (A Midwest, Rays) outfielder Cade Gotta (2011) was 2-foir-4 with two homers and four RBIs in a 7-4 win over Fort Wayne on Thursday night to earn Corvallis Knights Minor League Player of the Day honors. He raised his average to .423 since his recent promotion from Hudson Valley of the Class A short-season New York-Penn League.

Honorable mention goes to:

* Lynchburg (A Carolina, Indians) pitcher Trevor Frank (2012) had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief in a 2-1 win over Frederick. He lowered his ERA to 2.61.

* Erie (AA Eastern, Tigers) DH Dean Green (2008) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in an 8-7 win over New Britain. He raised his average to .313.

* DANNY HAYES (2009, Glendale): The first baseman, who played for Charlotte (White Sox) in the triple-A International League in 2016, is hitting .194 (6-31) in nine games, with a homer and one RBI. He played at Oregon State.

* TREVOR FRANK (2012, Mesa): The right-handed pitcher, who played for Lynchburg (Cleveland) in the advanced-A Carolina League in 2016, is 1-0, 15.45 in four games, with one strikeout in 2.1 innings. He played at UC-Riverside.

Some news from around the WCL:

Walla Walla general manager Katie Biagi has resigned. Her last official day will be October 31.

A graduate of Whitman College, first joined the Sweets during their inaugural 2010 season, as a member of the game-day staff. She was promoted in the fall of 2010 to manage the Sweets Shoppe on Main Street, starting her ascent to a senior leadership position with the team.

In subsequent years, she received promotions to director of operations, director of marketing, and finally was named general manager in the fall of 2013, replacing team president Zachary Fraser, who was in the process of starting parent company Pacific Baseball Venture's (PBV) second club in the West Coast League, the Yakima Valley Pippins.

Fraser will re-assume general manager responsibilities for the Sweets in addition to his role as president of PBV. He will work with the team�s board of directors to establish a long-term plan for the role past the 2017 season.

The Clinton LumberKings (A Midwest, Mariners) have named Erik Oas as their new "Radio Voice" for the 2017 season.

Oas, 26, will serve as the team's Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations. The San Diego native comes to Clinton following a stint with the Kannapolis Intimidators, the Chicago White Sox Class A affiliate in the South Atlantic League, where he served as their Broadcast/Media Relations Assistant during the 2016 season.

He graduated from San Jose State in May 2013, then spent 2014 and 2015 in the WCL as the Director of Broadcast and Media Relations for the Klamath Falls Gems (2014) and Bellingham Bells (2015).

Alum Mitch Haniger (2010) of the Seattle Mariners is off to a great start this season, his first in the Pacific Northwest. The Cal Poly product, obtained in an offseason trade with Arizona, is hitting 323 (20-62) with a .432 on-base percentage, and a .597 slugging percentage with five doubles, four homers, 11 walks, 15 runs scored and 15 RBIs.

The Knights have signed incoming Oregon State freshmen catcher Troy Claunch and outfielder Kevin Watson Jr. for the 2017 season, continuing a long and successful arrangement with the Beavers.

Claunch is a senior at Vacaville High School in Vacaville, Calif. Watson Jr. is a senior at Beaverton High School.

A 6-foot, 185-pounder who bats and throws right-handed, Claunch is a four-year letterman at Vacaville HS. He played for the Athletics in the 2016 Area Code Games and is rated as the nation�s No. 214 high school prospect by Perfect Game.

He was first-team all-league in 2016, when he hit .316, with five doubles, one triple and 21 RBIs. He hit .489, with eight doubles, two triples, one home run and 29 RBIs as a junior and .421, with six doubles, two homers and 10 RBIs, as a freshman.

Watson is a 6-2, 180-pounder who bats left and throw right. A four-year letterwinner for the Beavers, he is rated as Oregon's No. 3 prep prospect by Baseball Northwest.

He was second-team 6A all-state and first-team all-Metro League in 2016, when he hit .314, with six doubles, six triples, 12 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. He hit .351 as a sophomore in 2015, with 11 doubles, one triple, 14 RBIs and four stolen bases.

His father, Kevin Watson Sr., played for OSU coach Pat Casey at George Fox University, and then played three seasons in the San Francisco Giants' organization.

Current Beavers Nick Madrigal and Adley Rutschman played with the Knights before their freshmen years at OSU. So did former Pac-12 all-star catchers Jake Rodriguez, and Andrew Susac, and pitcher Kevin Flemer, a key member of our 2013 WCL champions.
