It's a TGIF at the WWHQ

Finally, it's a TGIF here at the World Wide Headquarters of the Corvallis Knights. We're already ready for the weekend and the epic Civil War baseball series at PK Park in Eugene that will probably decide the Pacific-12 Conference championship.

Lots of future and former Knights, on both teams, will play major roles, so we have a stake in the outcome.

We also have a stake, of course, in our own season, which starts in just 18 more days when we host the Portland Lobos on Science and Art Day II, set for June 4 at Goss Stadium. We expect to host more than 1,700 area elementary school students at the ballpark, which will be a hub of activity with exhibits and demonstrations by OMSI; the Oregon State Colleges of Science and Engineering; The Drawing Board; the Arts Center in Corvallis; the Musicafe Rock School; Corvallis da Vinci Days, and PEAK Internet.

Now, here's today's news.

Future Knights squared off against each other on Thursday at the NCAA Division II regional at St. George, Utah, where Grand Canyon defeated Dixie State 12-3 in an opening round game.

GCU pitcher Andrew Naderer (2013) gave up five hits and two runs in six innings, had nine strikeouts and got the win for the Antelopes, who face Sonoma State tonight.

First baseman Kevin Kline (2013) was 0-for-4 for Dixie State, which was 6-1 against GCU in the regular season heading into Thursday's game. Dixie State plays Chico State today in a loser-out game.

No other 2013 Knights were in action on Thursday.

Former Knights all-WCL outfielder Logan Lotti (2008) was released by the Rockford Aviators of the independent Frontier League earlier this week. Lotti hit .340 in 42 games for us that summer, with five homers and 25 RBIs.

Kane County (A Midwest, Cubs) pitcher Eddie Orozco (2008-09) had two scoreless innings of one-hit relief, had one strikeout and got the win in a 5-0 victory over Peoria on Thursday to earn Corvallis Knights Minor League Player of the Day honors.

Honorable mention goes to:

* San Jose (A California, Giants) pitcher Josh Osich (2008) pitched an inning of scoreless relief, had two strikeouts, got a hold and lowered his ERA to 0.86 in a 5-2 wn over Rancho Cucamonga.

* Wisconsin (A Midwest, Brewers) outfielder Mitch Haniger (2010) was 3-for-5 and raised his average to .299 in a 3-1 loss to Quad Cities.

We've got another update on the renovation of Harry & David Stadium in Medford, from Rogues GM Chuck Heeman. The Knights will visit Medford, one of two expansion clubs this summer, on June 18-20; the Rogues visit Corvallis on July 24-26.

Reports Heeman:

"Our stadium construction is about 80 percent complete, and should be 90 percent done by Monday. All new seating areas will be completely installed by the end of the day Friday (the 17th). A new children's playground is being installed Saturday, and a 175-person party deck is to be constructed next week.

"After that it's last-minute things like railings, signage and gates, and the newly-renovated Harry & David Field will be ready for our May 31 preseason game against the Klamath Falls Gems. Seating capacity will then be nearly 2,100, including 700 grass berm seats. Our Facebook page will feature a lot of pictures once the smoke has cleared with the seating tomorrow."

Medford's a great market and the Rogues should be a big hit. They will be coached by one-time Knights' standout Josh Hogan (2007-09); Knights' alum Dylan Jones (2009-10), our 2010 MVP, is an assistant coach there.

TAYLOR ARD (2009): Taylor is hitting .173 (17-98) with a homer and nine RBIs in 30 games with Clinton (Iowa), Seattle's affiliate in the Class A Midwest League.

CARTER BELL (2009): Carter is hitting .238 (5-21) with no homers and two RBIs in six games with South Bend, Arizona's affiliate in the Class A Midwest League.

ALEX BURG (2008): Alex is hitting .360 (9-25) with no homers and four RBIs in six games with Jupiter, Miami's affiliate in the Class A Florida State League.

MATT DUFFY (2010): Matt is hitting .289 (39-135) with three homers and 25 RBIs in 39 games with Augusta (Ga.), San Francisco's affiliate in the Class A South Atlantic League.

MEDFORD: The Rogues have signed second baseman Caleb Palensky, a junior from Nebraska-Omaha, and right-handed pitchers Chad Hockin, an incoming freshman at Cal State Fullerton, and Aaron Moore, a sophomore at Texas-Pan American.

Moore takes the place of right-handed pitcher Reza Aleaziz, who de-committed from the University of Oregon, and Palensky takes the place of third baseman Austin Byler of Nevada, a 2012 Klamath Falls standout who is out for the summer due to injury.

Thursday already?

Wow, it's Thursday already. The week is just flying along and the big Civil War baseball series in Eugene is now just one day away. Former and future Knights should play a major role, as there are impact players on both teams who have played, or who will play, with the Knights.

Either way, good luck to both teams, who are on target to host regionals and even Super Regionals if both teams continue to play well and if neither team sweeps.

We're down to 19 more days until our June 4 season opener, a nonconference matchup with the Portland Lobos, a U-19 travel team, on Science and Art Day II at Goss Stadium. The number of elementary school students coming to the game continues to grow daily and we expect more than 1,700 kids from the Mid-Valley to join the fun.

And it's just 27 more days until our June 12 West Coast League home opener against the Kitsap BlueJackets.

Dartmouth outfielder Nick Ruppert (2013) had the cast removed from his broken hand this week; he continues to mend and now can begin his rehab. We expect him to join the club sometime in mid-June.

He'll be a welcome addition. He hit .345 with eight RBIs and started 16 games in center field for the Big Green before being injured. He's from La Mesa, Calif., and will be the first Dartmouth player in Knights history.

When it rains, it pours.

We usually just have one Corvallis Knights Minor League Player of the Day. But the big bats were out all across minor-league baseball on Wednesday night, so for the first time I can remember we'll have multiple winners of this major prize.

Today's co-winners are:

* Charlotte (AAA International, White Sox) second baseman Drew Garcia (2007) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in a 9-6 loss to Louisville.

* Richmond (AA Eastern, Giants) catcher Andrew Susac was 2-for-4 with a double, a three-run homer and four RBIs in a 7-6 win at Harrisburg.

* Springfield (AA Texas, Cardinals) outfielder Adam Melker (2008-09) homered twice, singled, scored three times and drove in three runs in a 5-3 victory over Tulsa.

Honorable mention goes to San Jose (A California, Giants) reliever Josh Osich. He pitched a scoreless inning, lowered his ERA to a microscopic 0.90 and was credited with a hold in a 4-3 win over Rancho Cucamonga.

Pretty quiet day Wednesday in college baseball, but a few future/alum Knights were in action for the respective college teams.

* Oregon pitcher Jared Priestley (2013) threw a scoreless inning of relief and had a strikeout in a 4-1 win over Gonzaga. Jimmie Sherfy (2011) struck out two in one inning for his 19th save and outfielder Connor Hofmann (2011-12) played but did not bat.

* UC Irvine shortstop Chris Rabago (2012-13) was 0-for-4 with a run and Elliot Surrey (2013) pitched a scoreless inning of relief in a 7-3 loss to San Diego. Evan Brock (2010) struck out two in two relief innings for the Anteaters; outfielder Grant Melker (2013) played but did not bat for USD.

* Mt. Hood pitcher Eric Huson (2013) gave up two runs, had three strikeouts in four innings and got the win in a 6-5 victory over Clackamas CC on Tuesday.

Alum A.J. Burke wins GNAC Pitcher of the Year Award

We're already halfway through the work week already, and down to 20 more days until our June 4 nonconference opener against the Portland Lobos on Science and Art Day II at Goss Stadium.

Our latest projections are for about 1,700 students, teachers and guests from local elementary schools will be our guests. They'll learn from exhibits hosted by OMSI; the Oregon State Colleges of Science and Engineering; The Drawing Board; the Arts Center in Corvallis; the Musicafe Rock School; Corvallis da Vinci Days, and PEAK Internet.

Knights alum A.J. Burke (2012) of Western Oregon was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year; he also was a unanimous first-team all-star. Burke led the conference in ERA (2.78) and strikeouts (91 in 90.2 innings) and posted a 7-4 won-loss record.

Congrats to A.J., who had a solid season (4-3, 2.70) for us as well last summer.

Another alum, WOU senior outfielder Matt Nylen, (2011-12) was a unanimous first-team all-star. Nylen was also a first-team all-star in 2011.

Alum Austin Hamilton, (2012) a sophomore shortstop at Linn-Benton Community College, has signed a letter of intent with Winthrop University, a Division I (Big South Conference) school in Rock Hill, S.C. Austin is hitting .291 in 39 games, with 18 RBIs and a stellar .409 on-base percentage.

"I'm super excited for the opportunity," Hamilton said Tuesday, between games of LBCC's doubleheader with Lane in what for now was the final home game in program history, as it has been eliminated.

"I didn't know they were even here recruiting me. It's across the nation, but I'm totally excited and blessed."

Hamilton was a NWAACC all-star in 2012 and probably will be again this season. The Big South is comprised of Winthrop, Coastal Carolina, Campbell, Radford, High Point, Liberty, Longwood, VMI, Presbyterian, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb and UNC-Asheville.

Alum Ben Weztler (2011) of Oregon State was nominated for Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for his win over Stanford on Sunday but was not selected. It went instead to another WCL alum, Oregon freshman Cole Irwin, for a shutout of Ohio State in a nonconference series. Irwin played at Cowlitz last summer.

Wisconsin (A Midwest, Brewers) outfielder Mitch Haniger (2010) did it again on Tuesday, He was 1-for-3 with a key three-run homer in a 9-7 victory over Quad Cities to earn Corvallis Knights Minor League Player of the Day honors for the second day in a row. Mitch played at Cal Poly and was the 2012 West Coast Conference Player of the Year.

Honorable mention goes to:

* Charlotte (AAA International, White Sox) third baseman Brent Morel (2006-07) doubled twice in an 8-7 loss to Louisville.

* Portland's Kramer Scott (2011) was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs; Caleb Whalen (2012) was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI; Cody Lenahan (2013) was 2-for-4 Michael Lucarelli (2013) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run; Kody Watts (2013) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, with two strikeouts, and Colin Feldtman (2013) allowed two runs in .2 innings in a 9-3 win over Washington. Alex Nesbitt (2013) allowed four runs in one inning for the Huskies in only his third appearance of the season.

* Cal Poly crushed CSU-Bakersfield 10-4 and former and future Knights played a huge role, as usual. Jimmy Allen (2011) was 0-for-4 with an RBI; Nick Torres (2012) was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs; Brian Mundell (2013) was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs; David Armendariz (2011) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run; Peter Van Gansen (2013) was 0-for-4, and Casey Bloomquist (2013) allowed three runs and had five strikeouts in six innings for his fifth win in his last six Tuesday starts.

The WCL's new Yakima franchise doesn't have a name or a stadium lease yet and it won't start playing until 2014. But we're confident those minor issues will be resolved shortly and the team is a great fit for the Yakima market, according to this editorial in the Yakima Herald newspaper.

Knights' alum Matt Nylen (2011-12) of Western Oregon was the MVP of last week's Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament. The Wolves defeated Central Washington in the championship game.

Nylen was 2-for-5 with a run and four RBIs in the championship game. Nylen hit .467 (7-15) in four tournament games overall, with a homer, four runs and five RBIs.

"It's such a great honor to be named Most Valuable Player, but it was a total team effort," Nylen said. "I just tried to take a patient approach at the plate and it worked out for me this weekend."

It's Tuesday, so here is our weekly update of the 2013 college stats for our NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and junior-college players.

CENTRAL WASHINGTON: Junior infielder Scott Stone hit .291 (23-79) in 33 games, with two homers and 12 RBIs. CWU's season is over.

CONCORDIA: Sophomore outfielder Blake Drake hit .367 (84-229) in 55 games, with 27 RBIs. Concordia's season is over.

DIXIE STATE: Sophomore infielder Kevin Kline is hitting .358 (53-148) in 43 games, with six homers and 40 RBIs. DSU will host an NCAA Division II regional in St. George, Utah, this Thursday-Sunday.

GEORGE FOX: Junior pitcher Tom Zarosinski was 4-4, 3.18 in 12 games, with 66 strikeouts in 76.1 innings. Sophomore pitcher Sean Eberhardt was 3-0, 3.14 in 13 games, with 10 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. GFU has finished its season.

GRAND CANYON: Sophomore pitcher Jorge Perez is 6-4, 3.35 in 13 games, with 52 strikeouts in 86 innings. Freshman pitcher Andrew Naderer is 8-2, 2.62 in 13 games, with 67 strikeouts in 75.2 innings. GCU will play in the NCAA Division II regional at St. George this Thursday-Sunday.

MT. HOOD CC: Sophomore pitcher Eric Huson is 6-0, 2.11 in nine games, with 38 strikeouts in 59.2 innings.

PACIFIC UNIVERSITY: Sophomore pitcher Kyle Treadway is 2-7, 3.91 in 11 games, with 23 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. The Boxers' season is over.

PACIFIC LUTHERAN: Junior pitcher Max Beatty was 7-5, 2.48 in 13 games, with 90 strikeouts in 87 innings. Sophomore pitcher Chris Bishop was 2-3, 4.89 in 16 games, with three saves and 37 strikeouts in 42.1 innings. Sophomore pitcher Jake Otness was 1-2, 8.04 in 18 games, with 26 strikeouts in 31.1 innings. PLU's season is over.

TACOMA CC: Sophomore pitcher Brandon Choate, a Washington signee, is 1-2, 2.61 in 13 games, with four saves and 25 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. Sophomore Chad Michaud is hitting .304 (24-79) in 23 games, with a homer and 22 RBIs as a catcher and is 0-0, 0.00 in five games as a pitcher, with a save and seven strikeouts in four innings. Knights' pitching coach Connor Lambert has the same job with TCC during the school year.

Three more wins for future/alum Knights

Happy Monday, everyone.

This is starting to sound like a broken record, but that's OK because it's a good broken record.

Knights alums Matt Boyd (2010) and Ben Wetzler (2011) and future Knight Andrew Moore all earned wins and Scott Schultz (2011) got a save for Oregon State this weekend as the Beavers swept Stanford to assume uncontested possession of first place in the Pacific-12 Conference race.

It's the third weekend in a row the Beavers have swept a Pac-12 series and they extended their lead over Oregon to one game heading into this weekend's series at Eugene. Boyd, Wetzler and Moore have combined for all nine of those wins.

And with the weekend now behind us, we're down to just 22 more days until our June 4 season opener, a nonconference game against the Portland Lobos on Science and Art Day at Goss Stadium. Another beautiful Friday at the WWHQ in the Madison Plaza in downtown Corvallis. What a fantastic spring we've had; let's hope that pattern continues and the great weather will help us establish an attendance record at Goss Stadium this summer.

We're down to 25 more days until our June 4 season opener against the Portland Lobos on Science and Art Day at Goss Stadium. We expect more than 1,600 area elementary school students to be at the game so it should be a lot of fun.

Director of Tickets Jaimie Van Vleet will be printing this year's season tickets next week and they'll be available starting May 20. You can pick them up in person at the WWHQ; have them left at will call each night, or we'll mail them to you or deliver them to you at your home or business. Just let us know your preferred option.

The Miami Marlins have assigned utility Alex Burg, the MVP of our 2008 West Coast League championship team, to the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Class A-advanced Florida State League. He signed with them last week.

Burg was released earlier this year by the San Francisco Giants after three years in their farm system, and had recently signed with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the independent American Association before returning to affiliated ball.

He joins Knights' alum James Nygren (2009) on the Hammerheads. Alex went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in his debut game with the club so he's off to a great start!

And the Arizona Diamondbacks have assigned infielder Carter Bell (2009) to the South Bend Silver Hawks in the Midwest League. He had not been placed with a team to that point; he played for Visalia in the California League in 2012.

Several 2013 Knights were in action on Thursday for their respective college teams.

* Concordia center fielder Blake Drake was 2-for-4 with a run on Thursday in an 8-7, 10-inning loss to Tabor (Kan.) College in the opening round of the Santa Clarita (Calif.) Regional of the NAIA national tournament. Concordia then eliminated Cal State San Marcos 13-3 on Friday morning; a box score of that game isn't available yet. The Cavaliers will play Tabor again at 6 p.m. today in another loser-out game.

* Central Washington first baseman Scott Stone was 0-for-2 with a run in a 6-5 win over Montana State-Billings in the first game of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament at Western Oregon. He didn't play in a 3-0 win over WOU; alum Matt Nylen (2011, 2012) was 2-for-2 with two walks and AJ Burke (2012) gave up two runs in eight innings, had nine strikeouts and got the loss for WOU. CWU plays WOU again on Friday needing one win for the championship.

It's Friday Eve at the WWHQ

Happy Thursday, everyone. Another sunny, beautiful day in CorVegas, which this spring has been a virtual paradise, especially compared to the past two dismal, dreary, La Nina springs.

We're down to just 26 days until our June 4 season opener with the Portland Lobos on Science and Art Day at Goss Stadium. More than 1,600 area elementary school students will be our guests at the game and we're looking forward to working with OMSI; the Oregon State Colleges of Science and Engineering; The Drawing Board; the Arts Center in Corvallis; the Musicafe Rock School; Corvallis da Vinci Days, and PEAK Internet, which will man the radar gun station, to give them a memorable experience at the ballpark.

Also, our 10-game punch cards have been selling like hotcakes the past week or so, so get yours now and don't miss out on all the fun this summer. A punch card ($40 for 10 GA tickets) is one of the best values in town!

Season tickets are also available, two more went out the door yesterday. And our new merchandise has started to arrive, so come visit us at the World-Wide Headquarters of the Corvallis Knights (the WWHQ) in the Madison Plaza building in downtown Corvallis.

Knights lose WSU pitcher Kellen Camus

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Big day down at the WWHQ this morning, with the arrival of former Knights/Washington State infielder JK Dykes, (2010-11), who will be our Washington State Sports Management Intern this summer. He graduated from WSU on May 4 with a degree in Sport Management (that's why he's our Sport Management intern).

He's already out on an errand, so we're putting him to work right away. He'll be a nice addition to our office staff.

However, we do have some bad news that's Wazzu-related. Junior pitcher Kellen Camus, a 2013 signee, has a bad shoulder and will miss the summer season. He was 3-2, 3.67 in 19 games this season, with three saves and 28 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.

So, our only WSU player this summer will be freshman pitcher Jacob Schroder, a high-touted 6-foot-7 freshman right-hander who has pitched sparingly this spring and thus should be ready to go when he arrives in Corvallis.

WALLA WALLA: Ticket sales for the upcoming season are "brisk," according to this story on the Sweets' website. They were second in the WCL in league-game attendance in 2013, drawing 34,598 fans for 26 openings; we were third at 33,801 for 26 openings.

WCL president Ken Wilson steps down

Happy Tuesday, everyone.

Lots of news to report on this sunny morning at the WWHQ in downtown Corvallis, so we'll dispense with obligatory chit-chat and get right to it.

Most importantly, Ken Wilson has stepped down as the president of the West Coast League after five successful seasons. No successor was named; he will remain as an advisor and consultant to the league through August 31.

Current WCL vice president Eddie Poplawski, the owner of the Bellingham Bells, will serve as the WCL's primary contact and administrator until a successor is hired.

Wilson succeeded Jim Dietz as the WCL's initial full-time president in March, 2008. During his tenure the WCL added franchises in Cowlitz, Walla Walla, Medford, Klamath Falls, Victoria and Yakima; the overall talent level improved, the All-Star Game was revived, and attendance increased to a record 259,213 for league games in 2012.

"The Corvallis Knights and WCL benefited greatly from Ken's expertise and diligence," Knights' president Dan Segel said. "He grew the WCL and was a guy we could always count on for consultation and support here in Corvallis. We wish him well, and thank him for his extraordinary efforts developing markets."

Before joining the WCL, Wilson worked 22 seasons as a major-league baseball broadcaster with Seattle, the California Angels, Cincinnati, Oakland, St. Louis and the Chicago White Sox. He then founded and operated the River City (Missouri) Rascals and Gateway (Illinois) Grizzlies minor-league franchises and was instrumental in the development of new stadiums for both clubs.

In the baseball offseason he spent 22 as a National Hockey League broadcaster, with ESPN, Sportschannel America and the St. Louis Blues. He also broadcast Washington State, Seattle Pacific and Big Eight Conference basketball, and St. Louis Rams football.

Best of luck to Ken, who always had a kind and encouraging word for The Blog on his many trips to Corvallis.

Several former or future Knights were nominated for Player/Pitcher of the Week honors by their respective conferences, but they were not selected.

* Cal Poly freshman catcher/DH Brian Mundell, expected to be the top power source on the 2013 Knights, didn't earn Big West Conference honors despite hitting .467 (7-15) with a triple, a homer, three RBIs and three runs in four games. He raised his average 19 points to .293 (44-150), with nine homers and 32 RBIs in 41 games.

* Oregon State freshman pitcher Andrew Moore (2013) and junior catcher Jake Rodriguez didn't win Pac-12 honors. Moore pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout against California; Rodriguez hit .429 (3-7) with two RBIs and shone defensively as the Beavers swept California to stay in first place.

Former Knights outfielder Nick Akins (2007) has signed with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the independent American Association. He was released recently by the Los Angeles Dodgers after four years in their farm system.

GRAND CANYON: Sophomore pitcher Jorge Perez is 6-4, 3.35 in 13 games, with 52 strikeouts in 86 innings. Freshman pitcher Andrew Naderer is 8-2, 2.62 in 13 games, with 67 strikeouts in 75.2 innings. GCU will learn May 12 if it has qualified for the NCAA Division II tournament.

MT. HOOD CC: Sophomore pitcher Eric Huson is 5-0, 2.18 in eight games, with 33 strikeouts in 53.2 innings.

PACIFIC UNIVERSITY: Sophomore pitcher Kyle Treadway is 2-7, 3.91 in 11 games, with 23 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. The Boxers' season is over.

PACIFIC LUTHERAN: Junior pitcher Max Beatty is 7-5, 2.48 in 13 games, with 90 strikeouts in 87 innings. Sophomore pitcher Chris Bishop is 2-3, 4.89 in 16 games, with three saves and 37 strikeouts in 42.1 innings. Sophomore pitcher Jake Otness is 1-2, 8.04 in 18 games, with 26 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.

TACOMA CC: Sophomore pitcher Brandon Choate, a Washington signee, is 1-2, 2.57 in 12 games, with four saves and 24 strikeouts in 19 innings. Sophomore Chad Michaud is hitting .319 (22-69) in 20 games, with a homer and 21 RBIs as a catcher and is 0-0, 0.00 in four games as a pitcher, with a save and five strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Knights' pitching coach Connor Lambert has the same job with TCC during the school year.

Knights sign Max Beatty of PLU

Happy Monday, everyone. I hope you're as excited as we are at the WWHQ to be back at work.

We are down to a mere 29 more days until our June 4 nonconference season opener against the Portland Lobos on Science and Art Day at Goss Stadium. So get your season tickets and 10-game punch cards now.

We do have some other good news to report.

The Knights have signed Pacific Lutheran University redshirt junior Max Beatty, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-hander, for the 2013 season. Beatty also pitched for Knights in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and will be the first collegiate four-year Knight in franchise history if he does not turn professional after the June draft. He is rated the No. 3 Division III prospect by Baseball America.

The Vancouver, Wash., native was 7-5, 2.48 in 13 games at PLU this spring, with 90 strikeouts and just 13 walks in 87 innings. He was twice named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week and is a strong candidate for league postseason honors.

He was 2-1, 4.01 in eight games for the Knights in 2012, with 20 strikeouts in 40.1 innings after missing the 2012 college season while recovering from cancer. In 2011 he was 6-1, 2.42, and earned all-WCL honors, started the WCL Championship Series clincher against Walla Walla and appeared in the WCL All-Star Game.

Outfielder Gus Craig (2013) of Columbia hit a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning on Saturday to lift them Lions to a 6-5 victory over Dartmouth in Game 1 of the Ivy League Championship Series at Columbia's Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

Columbia also won the nightcap 12-5 to win the series and advance to the NCAA tournament. Craig is a Eugene native.

Another 2013 Knight, outfielder Nick Ruppert, played for Dartmouth this season but suffered a broken hand earlier this spring and missed the rest of the season. He is expected to be available for summer ball, however.

Concordia and sophomore outfielder Blake Drake (2013) won the NAIA West tournament at Concordia on Friday to qualify for the NAIA national tournament.

The Cavaliers are the No. 5 seed at the Santa Clarita regional on May 9-13, hosted by top-seeded The Master's College (Calif.). The Cavaliers will be joined Cal State San Marcos as the No. 2 seed, San Diego Christian as the No. 3 seed and Tabor (Kan.) as the No. 4 seed.

The regional champions will join host Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at the 57th annual Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho, May 24-31.

Drake hit .367 (79-215) in 53 games, with no homers, 26 RBIs and 20 steals in 26 attempts.

For the second weekend in a row, future/alumni Knights won all three games for Oregon State as the Beavers swept a Pac-12 series at Goss Stadium, this time against California. Matt Boyd (2010) won on Friday, Andrew Moore (2013) won on Saturday and Ben Wetzler (2011) won on Sunday.

Future Knight Max Engelbrekt (2013) and 2011 alums Jace Fry and Scott Schultz closed out Sunday's game in relief of Wetzler.

COLUMBIA: Sophomore outfielder Gus Craig is hitting .313 (10-32) in 30 games, with no homers and three RBIs.

DARTMOUTH: Freshman outfielder Nick Ruppert hit .345 (19-55) in 16 games, with eight RBIs. He was sidelined earlier this year with a broken hand but will be recovered in time to play this summer.
