Reser's Oregon All-Star Series Rosters Announced.
May 27, 2011Future College Players to be Showcased at Goss Stadium June 18-19
Oregon's premier high school baseball players will battle for state bragging rights and supremacy in the Reser's All-Star Series, set for June 18-19 at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.
Stars from the 6A and 5A classification have been divided into 21-man teams representing the North and South for the Oregon All-Star Series, to be played at Goss Stadium on the campus of Oregon State. A single game is set for 6 p.m. on June 18; a doubleheader is planned for 2 p.m. June 19.
The teams were selected by the state's 6A and 5A coaches. More than half have signed Division I, Division II, Divison III or junior-college letters of intent and will play beyond the high school level and several almost certainly will be selected in the Major League Baseball draft this June.
"These players are the best of the best in Oregon and that should make for an outstanding, exciting weekend of baseball," said All-Star Series Director Dan Segel of the Corvallis Knights, the organizers of the event.
"We are thrilled to welcome them to Corvallis and to give them the opportunity to play in a big-time venue like Goss Stadium. They are first-class players and they deserve to play in a first-class event like the Reser's All-Star Series."
The North team features ample future Division I talent.
Pitchers Jace Fry (Southridge) and Riley Wilkerson (West Linn) have signed with Oregon State. They're complemented by pitcher Sam Johnson of Westview, an Oregon signee. Infielders Jordan Spencer of Beaverton (Oregon) and Ryan Howard of Southridge (Seattle) anchor the North squad, composed primarily of players from the Portland metropolitan area.
The Division III Northwest Conference will welcome pitcher Jake Otness of Barlow (Pacific Lutheran), outfielder Taylor Hein of Canby (Linfield) and infielders Brandon Carrow of Forest Grove and Adam Bell of Canby, who've signed with Pacific University.
The South team also has Division I pitching talent in right-hander Alex Robinett of Mountain View (Army) and lefty Austin Richmond of Tualatin (Washington State).
North Eugene infielder Garret Harpole is headed for Division II power Western Oregon. Teammate Shawn Boehm, and outfielder/pitcher Taylor Burner (pictured) of West Albany have signed with Lane Community College while North Salem catcher Cole Ferguson has signed with the powerful Western Nevada JC program.
"Both teams have exceptional talent," Segel said. "Many players from the old State-Metro series eventually played in the major leagues and perhaps some of this year's stars will join that group.
"The State-Metro series was a great Oregon tradition and The Dalles was a wonderful host. We hope to restore that tradition, and to start making new memories, as we welcome the Reser's Oregon All-Star Series to Corvallis."
