Grand Canyon Pitcher Jorge Perez Returns to Knights.
November 15, 2012Corvallis Signs Tom Zarosinski of George Fox to 10-Day Contract.
Grand Canyon University sophomore pitcher Jorge Perez will return to the Knights for the 2013 season. The Knights have also signed George Fox University sophomore pitcher Tom Zarosinski (pictured) to a 10-day contract. He's a former Oregon Stater who played briefly for the Knights in 2011.
Perez (6-2, 190) is a right-hander from Downey, Calif., who was 3-3 in nine games for the 2012 Knights, with a 2.79 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 48.1 innings. He was selected to the West Division squad for the WCL All-Star Game and threw a scoreless inning as the West's starting pitcher.
A right-hander from Lake Oswego, Zarosinski (6-0, 220) will provide early depth until the full-time players arrive in mid-June. Temporary signees often make the Knights for good; our top 2012 pitcher, WCL all-star and first-team all-leaguer Rob Dittrick of Pacific University, was also a 10-day signee.
Zarosinski was 1-7, 5.56 in 12 starts at GFU in 2012, with 52 strikeouts in 56.2 innings. He redshirted at OSU, was 0-0, 4.50 in his lone appearance for the Knights, and then played for the Ports in WCL Portland before transferring to George Fox.
He was a first-team all-state selection and the Tualatin River League's co-Pitcher of the Year in 2010 as a senior at LOHS.
The Knights now have signed five returnees from the 2012 team, which lost to Wenatchee in Game 3 of the WCL Championship series: Perez; UC Irvine utility player Chris Rabago; Corban infielder Marc Gallegos; Pacific Lutheran pitcher Chris Bishop, and Central Washington pitcher Devon Barker.
