Oregon High School Baseball All-Star Series Moves to Corvallis.

Corvallis, Oregon, Wednesday, December 8, 2010 - Oregon High School Baseball Coaches Association president Kevin Moffat announced today that the Oregon High School Baseball 5A/6A All-Star Series is moving to Corvallis. Last year's All-Star Series was held at Linfield College in McMinnville.

In 2011, Oregon's elite high school senior baseball players will compete in a three-game All-Star Series June 18-19 at Goss Stadium on the campus of Oregon State University.

The Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League will manage the Oregon All-Star Series.

"We are thrilled to host and promote the Oregon All-Star Series and have every intention of making it a premier event, one that delivers memorable experiences, showcases kids and brings Oregon's baseball community together for a good time," said Knights' team president Dan Segel.

"We're pleased the All-Star Series is going to be played here at Goss. It's going to be a neat thing for the players and coaches for sure," said Oregon State head baseball coach Pat Casey. "I'm confident the community will embrace this event much like The Dalles did in its heyday."

The All-Star Series thrived in The Dalles from 1971 through 2007 at Quinton Street Ball Park where players like Danny Ainge, Darwin Barney, Scott Brosius, Kevin Gregg, John Jaha, Dale Murphy and Harold Reynolds showcased their skills in front of enthusiastic crowds and where coaches and scouts gathered to watch baseball and share stories.

"It's super to see the Knights taking this on," said University of Oregon pitching coach Andrew Checketts. "They will make this a big deal like it was back in The Dalles, and they will do it right."

Checketts pitched in the 1994 All-Star Series representing West Linn High. He started his coaching career with the Knights in 2000.

Beginning in 2011, the Oregon All-Stars will be outfitted in Nike head to toe. Nike Team Sports has agreed to be the official supplier of uniforms, apparel, compression, headwear, equipment and footwear for the All-Star Series. Nike will also be hosting a Coaches Reception following Saturday's opener for all high school, youth and college baseball coaches attending the game.

"With Nike involved, playing at Goss Stadium with hosts like the Knights, in a town like Corvallis with such a rich baseball tradition, I think our All-Star Series can become the state's premier high school baseball event," said Lake Oswego High head baseball coach Jake Anders.

The opening game of the All-Star Series is scheduled for Saturday, June 18. First pitch is slated for 6 pm. The final two games will be played on Sunday, June 19 as part of a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
