Corvallis Knights Lose Skipper

Matt Dorey Accepts Scouting Position with Boston Red Sox.

The Corvallis Knights lost its skipper as the World Champion Boston Red Sox hired Matt Dorey as a regional scout this past Tuesday. Dorey was 38-20 and won the WCCBL West in his one year as the Knights manager. Matt was going to be the new head coach at Mt. Hood Community College. He will hand the Saints over to Gresham Mountaineers skipper Bryan Donohue.

Dorey is the second Knights coach to be hired as a scout. Knights' head assistant coach Gabe Sandy was hired by the Florida Marlins after the 2006 summer.

Matt is replacing John Booher as the Red Sox Northwest scout. Booher signed Oregon State start Jacoby Ellsbury in 2005 and is still with the Red Sox, but covering a new region.

"Losing Coach Dorey is really tough, but we are happy for Matt. The Red Sox are a class organization and this an excellent career opportunity for Matt," said team president Dan Segel. "Dorey is an extraordinary and rising coach. He will be dearly missed by both the Knights and the coaching community."

Corvallis general manager Brooke Knight will start a formal head coaching search and start accepting applications as of November 26, 2007.
