The Corvallis Knights franchise-best win streak, now at 16 games, has caught the attention of Perfect Game Crosschecker as the online scouting service has ranked the Knights #6 in its national summer college baseball poll. PGC's latest rankings were released on Wednesday, July 1.
The Wenatchee AppleSox of the West Coast League were ranked #13 and the Forest City Owls of the Coastal Plain League were ranked #1.
Corvallis has been led by great pitching featuring frosh All-American Sam Gaviglio (1-0, 0.00) of Oregon State, West Coast League Player of the Week for June 22-28 Matt Andriese (2-0, 0.53) of UC Riverside, All-Big West pitcher Dustin Emmons (3-0, 0.90) of UC Riverside and closer Steve Kalush (1-0, 3 svs, 0.00) of Santa Clara; slugger Taylor Ard (.408, 3, 24), a soph-to be at Oregon State, and an exemplary defense anchored up the middle by shortstop Richie Jimenez (pictured), a junior-to be at UNLV; catcher Andrew Susac, a frosh-to be at Oregon State; and centerfielder Pat Colwell of San Diego State.
The Knights (19-3, 14-3) lead the West Coast League in hitting with a team batting average of .295.
Corvallis also leads the league in team defense with a fielding percentage of .984 and the staff's 2.27 ERA is the league's lowest.
