Corvallis Knights alums Andrew Susac of Oregon State, Tyler Anderson of Oregon, Sam Gaviglio of Oregon State and Mitch Haniger of Cal Poly (pictured making a diving catch at Goss Stadium in 2010) will play in the Arizona Fall League in October and November.
* A catcher in the San Francisco organization, Susac (2009) will play for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He spent 2013 at double-A Richmond in the Eastern League and played in that circuit's All-Star Game.
* A left-handed pitcher in the Colorado organization, Anderson (2009) will play for the Salt River Raptors. He played primarily at Modesto in the Class A California League in 2013.
* A right-handed pitcher in the St. Louis organization, Gaviglio (2009) will also play for the Rafters. He spent most of 2013 on the disabled list after a strong start at Palm Beach in the Class A Florida State League.
* An outfielder in the Milwaukee organization, Haniger (2010) will play for the Surprise Saguaros. He started 2013 at Wisconsin in the Midwest League and then was promoted to Brevard County in the Florida State League.
Each major league organization sends its top six prospects to the Phoenix area to play in the six-team (Scottsdale Scorpions, Mesa Solar Sox, Salt City Rafters, Phoenix Desert Dogs, Peoria Javelinas, Surprise Saguaros) league. Most are double-A and triple-A players; clubs can send one Class A prospect.
The AFL season starts on Oct. 8 and runs through Nov. 16. Games are played in the spring training facilities used by the Giants, Mariners, Padres, Cubs, Athletics, Royals, Rangers, Diamondbacks and Rockies.
