Linn-Benton CC Drops Baseball.
May 16, 2013Corvallis Knights Lose Partner; Community Loses Asset
The Roadrunners of Linn-Benton CC played their final home baseball game on Tuesday, May 14 vs. Lane CC and head coach Greg Hawk (pictured with alums, l-r, Rob Carlson and Dan Segel) coached his final home game as LB dropped its baseball program and Hawk retired after 30 years at LBCC.
While it was a sad moment for the community, alums and the LB players and coaches, the Roadrunners won game one and then followed that with a game one win at Mt. Hood CC today to secure a berth in the NWAACC tournament scheduled for May 23-27 at David Story Field in Longview, Wash.
Linn-Benton CC and Hawk now have a shot to go out as champions.
The Roadrunners won NWAACC titles in 1988 and 1991 with Hawk at the helm.
The Knights have rostered Linn-Benton players since 1990.
Knights Baseball Club, Inc. board member Brett Smith was a key contributor on the 1991 LB title squad.
Corvallis team president Dan Segel played at Linn-Benton CC in 1985-1986.
