June 10, 2010Greg Peavey of OSU Picked in 6th Round
A total of 11 players who have donned Corvallis Knights uniforms were selected in the 2010 MLB June draft including current Knights' infielder/catcher Jake Rodriguez of Elk Grove High School.
Rodriguez is a frosh-to-be at Oregon State and was picked by the Los Angeles Angels in the 11th round. Over 5 starts and 22 at bats, Jake is currently hitting .227 with a double.
The first Knight to get picked on Tuesday was right-hander Greg Peavey (pictured) of Oregon State in the 6th round by the New York Mets. Peavey was the Knights' closer in 2007, earned All-WCCBL honorable mention and was rated the #2 prospect in the WCCBL by Baseball America.
Peavey's OSU teammate Josh Osich was selected in the 7th round by the Los Angeles Angels and Greg's 2007 summer roommate Daniel Bibona of UC Irvine was picked in the 8th round by St. Louis.
Osich earned first-team All-WCL honors with the Knights while leading Corvallis to a league title in 2008. The fireballing southpaw was also rated the #2 prospect in the West Coast League.
Bibona earned back-to-back Big West Pitcher of the Year honors as a junior and senior, respectively, and developed his plus-plus change as a Knight where he earned All-WCCBL honorable mention.
Ex-Knights catcher Rocky Gale of University of Portland was drafted in the 24th round by San Diego. Gale caught two summers with the Knights, in 2007 and 2009.
2009 WCL batting champion Taylor Ard of Mt. Hood CC was chosen in the 35th round by Florida.
Popular outfielder Adam Melker of Cal Poly was picked in the 44th round by St. Louis. The sweet swinging left-handed hitter led the Knights to WCL wins records in 2008 and 2009.
