Knights Slugger Roman Garcia Earns WCL Player of the Week Honors.

The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league president Donnie Marbut, for the week of July 18-24 were San Diego junior first baseman Roman Garcia of the Corvallis Knights and UC Riverside junior pitcher Jacob Worrell of the Cowlitz Black Bears.Garcia (pictured at Goss Stadium), a senior-to-be at University of San Diego, extended his hit streak to eight games with hits in all five of the Knights games post the All-Star Game, including four multiple hit games. The right-handed hitting slugger went 10-for-22 with 6 runs scored, three doubles and 5 RBIs for the week.
This past spring, Garcia had 83 at bats and hit .313 for the Toreros with 3 homers and 12 RBIs. For the summer, Roman is hitting .290 with 8 doubles, a homer and 17 RBIs for Corvallis.
Worrell pitched six no-hit innings last night at Vince Genna Stadium to earn the win in a combined shutout of Bend, 6-0. Earlier in the week, Worrell threw a key 2/3 innings of scoreless relief vs. the Elks, recording both outs by strikeout, in the Black Bears critical 5-4 victory at Cowlitz's David Story Field.
Cowlitz posted a 4-1 week following the WCL All-Star Game break to move within 3 games of first place in the South second-half at 7-7.
At UC Riverside in 2016, Worrell, who will be a senior this fall, made 15 appearances and one start. The right-hander went 0-3 with a save while posting a 5.89 ERA for the Highlanders.
Worrell has made 11 appearances and 2 starts for the Black Bears and is 3-3 with a 2.36 ERA.
