The Knights returned to Goss Stadium ranked and riding a 10-game win streak.Corvallis plays its first non-league game today versus the WCL Portland Stars managed by long-time David Douglas High School head baseball coach Pete Ness.
Before the game, the Knights treated their season ticket holders and sponsors to a meet & greet barbecue (pictured) with the team.
Corvallis was ranked #13 in the nation by PG Crosschecker in its first poll of the summer.
The Knights are currently 14-4 and in first place in the WCL West.
Corvallis leads the WCL in stolen bases with 59. The next closest club has swiped 28 bases. As a team, Corvallis is hitting .277 (fourth highest in the league).
The pitching staff leads the WCL in saves with 6 and has posted a league-low ERA of 2.55.
To date, the Knights have drew 7,391 over six home dates for an average of 1,232 per game. The season's high was 2,162 on Science & Art Day on June 6.
The Knights offense has been led early by 10-day signee Marc Gallegos of Corban University. Gallegos is hitting .373 and has stole 13 bases to earn a spot on the team.
Infielder Caleb Whalen of Portland leads the club in RBI with 15, and is batting .288 with three doubles and a triple.
Pitchers Rob Dittrick of Pacific, Devon Barker of Centralia College and Jorge Perez of Grand Canyon University have been impressive early. Dittrick and Barker, both 10-day signs, have earned spots on the roster.
Dittrick leads the team in innings pitched with 22 1/3 and is 3-0 with a 1.21 ERA.
Barker has been stellar in relief allowing only two runs while striking out 12 and walking two over five appearances and 11 2/3 innings pitched. Devon is 2-0 and has posted a 2.31 ERA.
Perez has made three starts and is 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA over 16 innings pitched.
