Two late runs power Cowlitz over Knights 3-1.

Stephen Nogosek (pictured) and Blake Drake had two hits each on Saturday but Cowlitz scored twice in the eighth to edge Corvallis 3-1.

A Story Field crowd of 858 saw the Knights (2-3, 1-3) outhit the Black Bears (3-1) 9-5. However, Corvallis left 10 runners on base, the third game in a row it has stranded double-digit runners.

Left fielder Gus Craig scored the Knights' only run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. That temporarily tied the game 1-1 before Cowlitz broke through against reliever Chris Bishop in the eighth.

Third baseman Sheldon Stober started the decisive rally with a leadoff double; he was sacrificed to third and scored on Ryan Aquilar's single. An insurance run scored on a two-out infield single off reliever Brandon Choate.

Corvallis starter Eric Huson allowed one run and no hits in three innings. Cowlitz scored in the third on two walks, an error that loaded the bases, and a force out. Bishop gave up two runs (one earned) in 4.2 innings and had four strikeouts.

The Knights resume the three-game series at 5:05 p.m. today; lefty Devon Barker (0-0, 0.00) is their projected starter. Their WCL home opener is set for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday against the Kitsap BlueJackets on Big League Chew Opening Night presented by AmeriTrade, at Goss Stadium. It starts a 6-game homestand.
