Corvallis salvages series finale with Bend. Knights beat Elks 4-3 before a Goss crowd of 821.

UC Irvine frosh pitcher Evan Brock (pictured) pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win.

On another chilly night at Goss Stadium, the Corvallis Knights broke its two-game losing streak by edging the WCL West Division-leading Bend Elks 4-3.

Two 2010 All-Big West honorable mention players contributed to the victory in their Knights debuts as sophomore outfielder Scott Lyman of UC Davis collected 3 RBI and frosh reliever Mitch Patito of UC Riverside pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to register the save.

The Knights led 4-0 going to the seventh, but the Elks charged back vs. reliever John Pecoraro of San Diego State as Washington State infielder Tommmy Richards closed the gap in a hurry with a no-out three-run home run.

Pecoraro got out of the inning and then Coach Knight turned to southpaw Matt Boyd of OSU in the eighth. Boyd got the first two outs and handed the game over to Patito who finished things off retiring all four batters he faced while recording two strikeouts.

First baseman Dylan Jones of Oregon State went 2-for-2 with two sacrifice hits and a stolen base for the Knights.

"We just came out with a little more energy, had a little more fun, swung the bats a little better today and had a good start from our pitcher," said Jones.

"We have a lot more young guys on the team this year, last year we had a lot of returners. I think there's only a few of us like myself, Kraus, Hoover and a few others. We just have to gel together a little quicker and I think it will be alright."

UW catcher Miles Kizer delivered a sixth-inning RBI single and Jake Rodriguez, a frosh-to-be at OSU, went 2-for-4 to improve his average to .324.

With the win, the Knights improve to 4-6.
