Knights beat WCL Portland Stars 5-3 before Tuesday night crowd of 1,036 at Goss Stadium.

JK Dykes (pictured) of Washington State delivered the game-winning hit and went 2-for-5 with a stolen base.

Dykes game-winning single scored Bo Altobelli of Texas Tech in the eighth inning. The Stars' centerfielder misplayed the hit allowing Jake Rodriguez to score from first base to give Corvallis a 5-3 lead.

"It was good. I've been kind of struggling getting some hits with runners in scoring position so far, so it was good to finally get one," said Dykes.

"I was looking for a good pitch to hit. It was my first time seeing that pitcher so I was looking for a fast ball to drive. Luckily I got one, so that felt good."

Reliever Eric Young of Riverside recorded the win, his first of the season.

UC Irvine pitcher Nick Hoover tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Portland scored first in the first inning off starter Ross Pomerantz of Occidental College, but the Stars lead was short lived as Knights' second baseman Griffin Boyd of Mt. Hood CC stroked a two-run triple in the bottom half of the inning to give Corvallis a 2-1 advantage.

John Pecoraro of San Diego State pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth innings, and struck out 4 Stars.

Catcher Corey Davis of Mt. Hood CC went 2-for-5 with a RBI double.

Leftfielder Bo Altobelli went 2-for-3.

With the win, Corvallis improves its overall record to 20-12.

The Knights resume WCL play on Thursday vs. Bend at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Game time is 7:05 pm.

Frosh infielder JK Dykes commented on the upcoming series with Bend saying, "I think they're a veteran team with a lot of good hitters, so I think our pitching is going to determine the series. Our pitchers have been good all year long so if they keep pitching like they have been in the last few weeks I think we'll do well."

You can listen to the entire Knights/Elks series on KEJO 1240 AM. Jason Schwartz is slated to call all the action.
