Bishop's bombs lead Knights past Mid-Valley, 10-0.

First baseman Cameron Bishop doubled twice, singled and drove in three runs to lead Corvallis to a 10-0 nonleague win over the Mid-Valley Rockets on Thursday.

A rising sophomore at UC Irvine, Bishop singled home a run in the first inning and then doubled twice to the base of the center-field fence in the fifth inning to highlight a nine-run outburst that gave the Knights (11-14 all, 7-14 WCL) an insurmountable 10-0 lead.

Michael Farris (UC Riverside) had three singles, two runs and an RBI; Ryan Matranga (San Francisco) and Jackson Soto (Oregon State) drove in two runs each; Jes Staples (Bellarmine) scored three times; Michael McAdoo Jr. (UC Santa Barbara in 2015-16) had two hits, a run and a game-ending diving catch in right field, and Josh George (Cal Poly) singled twice, walked twice and drove in a run for the Knights.

Lefty Cole Doherty (Portland) went five shutout innings for the win; he gave up three hits and struck out four. Gary Steindorf (Western Oregon) finished up with two scoreless innings. The game was stopped after 6 1/2 innings by the 10-run rule.

Former Knights' standout Chris Bishop (2012-14), who completed his eligibility at Pacific Lutheran this spring, started for the Rockets to help preserve their pitching depth for Zone 3 American Legion games. He went into the fifth and gave up five runs on eight hits, and had five strikeouts.

The Knights resume West Coast League action against Victoria at 7:15 p.m. Friday on Oregon State Credit Union Fireworks Night; righty Slater Lee (0-0, 2.91) of Cal Poly is their projected starter. The teams also play on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Thursday's crowd of 1,079 increased the season total to 18,455 in 13 dates. The Knights are 2,463 fans ahead of 2014 in a corresponding number of openings.
