Knights blank BlueJackets 1-0 at Kitsap.
July 17, 2009Southpaw Liam Baron (pictured) of Linn-Benton CC pitched a masterpiece shutting out Kitsap on two hits.
Baron baffled the BlueJackets as the lefty from Perth, Australia worked fast and efficient (under 90 pitches) to earn the complete game shutout win.
The game was played under two hours. The 1:53 duration was the shortest game of the Knights' season.
The Knights scored the contest's only run in the second-inning.
Billy Clontz tripled with one out as Kitsap rightfielder Caleb Brown of University of Washington made a diving try on Clontz's hit allowing Billy to make it to third. Then first baseman DJ Johnson, a junior-to be at Western Oregon, came through with a RBI ground out to second to deliver the game-winner.
Junior third baseman Doug Cherry of University of Washington went 3-for-4. The Knights as a team collected 8 hits.
Baron pitched to contact getting several ground ball outs as Cherry collected 6 assists and shortstop Richie Jimenez of Riverside CC and second baseman Josh Hogan of Oregon each had 4 assists.
With the win, the Knights have now won 28 of 30 and improved to 22-5 in league and 31-5 overall.
Corvallis and Kitsap resume their suspended 17-inning game on Saturday at 6:05 pm. The regularly scheduled game will follow the completion of the suspended game.
