August 8, 2013Center fielder Gus Craig of Columbia (pictured) singled three times and drove in three runs as Corvallis topped the Portland Lobos before a near sellout crowd at Goss.
The Knights (39-17 all) thus finished their regular-season home schedule the same way they started it back on June 4, with a win over the Lobos, a U-19 select team. Corvallis won the earlier game 7-6.
With the win, the Knights improved their home mark to 28-4 at Goss Stadium.
Right fielder Joe Duffin doubled, singled and drove in a run and left fielder Nick Ruppert of Dartmouth singled twice and had an RBI.
WCL All-Star Brandon Choate got the win in relief and Colin Feldtman of Portland recorded the save.
Thursday's crowd (2,453) was the second-largest of the summer and upped the season total to 41,138. The Knights can break their all-time record of 42,447 in the playoffs on Wednesday night.
The Knights conclude the West Coast League regular season with a weekend series at Klamath Falls. Right-hander Casey Bloomquist (4-0, 2.62) is Friday's scheduled starting pitcher.
Corvallis then begins the best-of-3 South Division playoff series on Tuesday night at either Bend or Medford. Game 2 is at Goss Stadium on Wednesday; if necessary, would be played at Goss Stadium on Thursday night.
