Corvallis edges the AppleSox 6-5 before a spirited crowd of 448.

Jim Murphy (pictured) of WSU hit a game-winning two-run homer and collected 4 RBI to lead the Knights to a much needed home win. The victory sets up a rubber match on Sunday as Corvallis looks to break its five-series losing streak to Wenatchee. The Knights will send frosh southpaw Blake Keitzman of Oregon State to the mound in the series finale.

On Saturday night, Corvallis jumped to an early 4-0 lead. Jim Murphy's two-run double in the third put the Knights up 3-0. Third baseman Clayton Shaw of University of Portland delivered a RBI double in the fourth to make it 4-0.

Corvallis squandered the lead in the fifth as the Sox scored 4 runs, three were unearned.

The Knights two position player WCCBL All-Stars helped Corvallis recapture the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Murphy homered after Matt Wyckoff's single to left.

"It was a change up," said Murphy. "Their pitching was pretty good tonight."

The Corvallis bullpen held the lead giving WCCBL All-Star Mike Koons of San Diego State his third win on the year.

Brad Kidd of BYU pitched two innings and gave up one run. Greg Peavey of Hudson's Bay High School threw a scoreless eighth and closer Kyle Cruikshank of Golden West College was perfect in the ninth to earn his team leading 6th save.

While the Knights defense struggled in the fifth, middle infielders Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC and Drew Garcia of UC Riverside both made great plays as did centerfielder Braden Wells of OSU early in the game.

"I wasn't really thinking about it," said Garcia talking about his behind the back play at second. "Hogan and I mess around during BP with plays like that and it just happened to work out."
