Knights beat BlueJackets 3-1, take sixth consecutive series.

Josh Osich (pictured) of Oregon State tossed six solid innings allowing 5 hits and one run while walking none and striking out 7 to earn the win.

The Knights won their second series of the season vs. Kitsap and sixth consecutive series by beating the Jackets 3-1 in the series rubber match.

Corvallis was led on offense by hot hitting Logan Lotti, a junior to-be at Oregon State. The rightfielder from Chico, California went 3 for 3 with a double and RBI. Lotti went 7 for 10 with two doubles, a triple, a homerun and 6 RBI over the series. Logan leads the WCCBL in hitting with a .375 batting average and in total bases with 62.

"It feels good to win a couple of games before the All-Star break," Lotti said. "It sets a good tone for the team and I am sure everyone is looking forward to the rest."

Lotti won't be resting as the outfielder from Sierra College will represent the Knights with Billy Clontz of Mt. Hood CC, Ryan Platt of UC Riverside, Taylor Starr of Oregon State, Jared Eskew of Cal Poly and Jon Berger of San Diego State at the 2008 WCCBL All-Star game in Moses Lake on Tuesday, July 22. Platt is the West's tentative starter. The West will be managed by Knights' skipper Brooke Knight.

Eddie Orozco of UC Riverside and Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC were also West All-Star picks, but both will be staying home to nurse injuries.

Corvallis struck first in the second inning as junior-to be outfielder Adam Melker of Cal Poly led things off with a four pitch walk. Melker moved to third on Alex Burg's single to center and scored on Dean Green's sacrifice fly.

In the third, Corvallis struck again as Lotti drove home Richie Jimenez, who reached second on a fielding error by Kitsap's shortstop, with a ground ball single up the middle.

The Knights' league leading defense continued to play great baseball. Josh Hogan, a junior-to be at Oregon, turned in the play of the game in the 5th, as the scrappy second baseman from Eugene dove to his right to rob Kitsap's Kyle Baskett of a single and squelch a potential Jackets' rally.

Corvallis scored their third and final run in the fifth as Lotti doubled and Billy Clontz followed Lotti's double with a RBI triple to right-center.

Osich picked up his second win of the season and lowered his ERA to 1.52. The soph-to be from Boise, Idaho has struck out 25 over 23 2/3 innings pitched and has only walked six batters on the season.

Jon Berger of San Diego State relieved Osich in the 7th and retired the side in order striking out two.

Chris Brookey, a sophomore-to be at Southwestern College, pitched a scoreless eighth and Taylor Starr of Oregon State closed the game earning his league leading 6th save.

Following the All-Star break, the Knights return to Goss Stadium Thursday, July 24 to face its affiliate team - the Gresham Mountaineers - before taking on the East leading Wenatchee AppleSox in a three-game home set (July 25-27).

"I think the series win is really nice before the break," Corvallis head coach Brooke Knight said. "It is important for a few of these guys that are not used to playing everyday to get some rest. It is a good note to end on. Wenatchee is going to be ready to go on Friday and it is going to be the battle on the bump come Friday."

Corvallis finishes the first-half of the season with a 23-11 overall mark and 21-9 WCCBL record. The Knights currently have a 5 1/2 game lead over second place Bend in the West.
