Melker has two hits, scores twice in 13-8 loss.

Right fielder Grant Melker (pictured) singled twice, scored, stole a base and had a great catch in right field but Corvallis fell 13-8 to Walla Walla on Monday.

The Sweets (4-5 WCL) scored an unearned run in the eighth to break a 5-5 tie. They added seven insurance runs in the ninth to salvage the third game of the series and snap the Knights' (6-4 all, 5-4 WCL) four-game winning streak.

Corvallis scored three times in the first inning on an error and on RBIs by Joe Duffin and Scott Quinlan but could not hold the lead. The Sweets scored twice in the third and fourth to go ahead 5-3; the Knights tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth to draw even until the decisive eighth.

Duffin had a three-run homer in the ninth to tie teammate Kevin Kline for the team and WCL lead with four. His four RBIs sent him in front of Kline for the team lead with 13, second-most in the WCL.

Melker singled twice, scored twice, stole a base and he reached base safely four times in five plate appearances. Quinlan's triple was the only other extra-base hit for Corvallis.

The Knights open a three-game series at Cowlitz on Tuesday night; Harrison McGhee (0-1, 5.40) is the scheduled starter. Their next home games are Friday-Sunday against the Kelowna Falcons, coached by former Knights' player (2006, 2008-09) and assistant (2010-11, 2013) Billy Clontz.
