Allen collects three hits but Knights fall 7-3 to Cowlitz in extras before crowd of 2,570.

Infielder Jimmy Allen (pictured) had three hits and scored the tying run in the ninth but Corvallis fell in a 10-inning battle to keep the Black Bears playoff hopes alive.

It was the final regular-season home game for the Knights, who sowed up their fifth consecutive West Coast League West Division title last week.

Allen of Cal Poly had a double and two singles and raised his average to .527 in his last five WCL games and to .244 on the season. He was the only Knight with more than one hit; Cade Gotta of Riverside CC had the Knights' only RBI.

A second-year expansion team, Cowlitz (28-25) remained alive in the West Division playoff race heading into the final night of the regular season by ending the Knights' (40-17, 36-17 WCL) eight-game winning streak. It was Cowlitz's first win at Goss Stadium after five losses over the past two summers.

The Black Bears trail Bend by a half game in the race for second place and must defeat Corvallis in Longview at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday to tie the Elks. Cowlitz would earn the playoff berth because it won the regular-season series between the teams.

Right-hander Kyle Hart of Redlands (4-1, 3.26) is the projected starter for Corvallis. He pitched one-hit ball over seven innings in a victory over Klamath Falls on Aug. 3 in his last start, with a career-high 10 strikeouts.

Cowlitz scored four times in the 10th after the Knights had rallied with one run in the eighth and two in the ninth to erase a 3-0 deficit and force bonus baseball. The tying run scored when Cowlitz second baseman Greg Velazquez had a two-out ground ball go between his legs, enabling Allen to scamper home from second.

The Knights drew 2,570 fans on Wilson Motors Fireworks Do-Over Night to increase their single-season record total attendance to 39,562 over 30 home dates, an average of 1,319 per opening. The old mark was 31,536 in 33 dates in 2009.

The Knights will travel to either Bend or Cowlitz on Friday for Game 1 of the WCL West Divisional Series. Games 2 and Game 3 (if necessary) will be at Goss Stadium on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 6:40 p.m.

No. 1 seed Wenatchee faces No. 2 Walla Walla on Friday in the first game of the WCL East Divisional Series. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be in Wenatchee on Saturday and Sunday.

The best-of-three WCL Championship Series opens on Aug. 16 in Wenatchee or Walla Walla. Aug. 17 is a travel day and the West team will host Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) on Aug. 18 and 19. Wenatchee is the two-time defending champion.
