Gold Sox hand Knights first loss. Akins homers in 9th to tie game.Corvallis dropped its first contest 3-2 after erasing a two-run deficit with single runs in the 7th and 9th.

Gold Sox starter Anthony Bass blanked the Knights on two hits over six innings. Bass was lifted after walking Knights' designated hitter Nick Akins to leadoff the 7th. Akins would score from second with two outs in the inning on catcher Rocky Gale's single to center off reliever Brock Floro of UC Davis. Nick got in scoring position by stealing second base with one out.

In the ninth, Akins led off with a game-tying homerun off Gold Sox closer Eric Federico. The opposite field blast tied the score 2-2. It appeared the Knights would take the lead after consecutive one-hit singles by University of Pilots Clayton Shaw and Gale. Shaw went to third on Gale's hit and run single. Gale then stole second prompting Gold Sox skipper Jack Johnson to intentionally walk the Knights number nine hitter second baseman Josh Hogan to load the bases with one out. That brought up Knights' leadoff hitter Steven Sultzbaugh of Weatherford (Tx) College. Sultzbaugh hit the first pitch right back to the pitcher intiating a pitcher to home to first inning-ending double play.

With the momentum shift, the Gold Sox captured game one with three ground ball base hits in the home half of the ninth. Reliever Brett Brunner of Pacific Lutheran took the hard luck loss. He pitched 2 2/3 quality innings allowing only the three seeing-eye singles while striking out 4. Gold Sox first baseman Matt Edgecombe led off the ninth with a rountine ground ball to first that skipped over Knights' first baseman Jordan Post for a single. After striking out the next batter, Brunner got left-hand hitting Matt Kavanaugh to hit a slow roller wide of third that was ruled an infield single after Knights' shortstop Jesse Rodgers fielded and threw errantly to first allowing pinch-runner Nick Ramos to reach third. The next batter, Travis Bernard collected the game-winning hit with a infield single to second.

The Knights wrap their two-game set with the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox tonight at 7 pm at All Seasons RV Park. The game will be broadcast on KTHH 990 AM with Nate Gorman's pre-game show starting at 6:50 pm.
