Knights beat Falcons 5-0 in Kelowna series opener before crowd of 1,027 at Goss.

Frosh Eddie Orozco of UC Riverside tossed 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball while striking out 7 to earn the win. Adam Melker of Cal Poly went 3 for 5 with a triple and two stolen bases.

In his first appearance with the Knights, Orozco was brilliant as the Knights won 5-0 in front of 1,027 Corvallis fans on Fireworks Night presented by Hurley Financial.

The Knights got on the board in the second as OSU junior-to-be Logan Lotti led off the inning with a double to centerfield. After advancing to third on a groundout by John Wallace of Oregon State, Lotti crossed the plate on an infield single by Oklahoma State's Davis Duren.

Corvallis struck again in the third as Cal Poly's Adam Melker led off with a single. After stealing second, his first of two stolen bases, Melker would score on a single to right off the bat of Oklahoma State's Dean Green.

With two out in the seventh, Billy Clontz of Mt. Hood CC walked. Clontz then stole second and scored on a single to right by pinch-hitter Matt Wyckoff of George Fox.

Corvallis scored its final two runs in the eighth inning. The first run as catcher Alex Burg of Washington State scored on a sac bunt by pinch-hitter Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC. With runners on first and third, Duren would score the fifth run of the game on a throwing error by Kelowna catcher Daniel Pellegrino of UC Riverside as Melker stole second and Duren scored from third on the bad throw.

After Orozco departed, the Knights' bullpen preserved the team's second straight shutout. Greg Bobnick of Western Oregon threw 2/3 of an inning striking out both hitters he faced.

University of Oregon junior-to be Geoff Nichols threw the seventh inning striking out two while surrendering two hits. Michael Cusick of Western Oregon took over in the eighth also striking out two Falcons.

Oregon State's Taylor Starr finished the game for the Knights in an non-save situation surrendering a walk and striking out one.

Knights' pitching has tossed consecutive League shutouts and has held its opponents scoreless for 22 straight innings.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 6:35 pm.

Frosh southpaw Josh Osich of OSU is the Knights' probable starter.
