July 9, 2009Matt Andriese (pictured) of UC Riverside tossed seven scoreless innings and combined with Tyler Anderson of Oregon on the shutout.
Andriese, a soph-to be from Redlands, California, allowed only three hits while walking one and striking out 8 to earn the win.
Anderson pitched two scoreless innings and struck out 2 while not allowing a hit.
With the shutout, the Knights' staff extended their scoreless streak to 29 innings pitched.
DJ Johnson, a junior-to be at Western Oregon, stayed hot on the road trip going 3-for-3 with a double.
Frosh Brent Warren of Oregon State went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Corvallis scored all the runs they would need in the second-inning as newcomer DJ Gentile, a junior-to be outfielder, of Cal Poly led-off with a single, went to third on Johnson's single and scored on a bloop single by catcher Andrew Susac.
Outfielder John Desmarais of Washington State plated the Knights' second run on a ground out to second and Warren delivered the inning's third run on a sacrifice fly to left.
The Knights scored their final run in the sixth-inning on a no-out bases loaded single by Warren.
Corvallis collected a season-high 15 hits, but left 12 men on base.
With the victory, the Knights improved their overall record to 26-4 and league mark to 20-4.
Corvallis and Wenatchee play game two of the series Saturday night at 7 pm at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium.
