Corvallis rallies to beat Pirates 7-4. Knights score 5 in 9th at Moses Lake.

Frosh first baseman Danny Hayes (pictured) of OSU delivered the big blow with a bases loaded single to right to put Corvallis ahead in the ninth.

Down 4-2, pinch-hitter Thomas McCarthy of Feather River drew a lead-off walk. After second baseman Jake Rodriguez struck out, rightfielder Dylan Jones of OSU singled to right.

Frosh outfielder Mitch Haniger of Cal Poly then singled scoring pinch-runner Jordan Poyer of Oregon State to pull the Knights within one run.

Pirates' skipper Steve Keller summoned 2010 MLB draft pick Kris Carlson of Wenatchee Valley College (KC Royals, 35th round) to save the game, but Carlson hit pinch-hitter Daniel Dillard of Western Oregon to load the bases setting up Hayes' heroics.

Danny hit a two-strike pitch sharply to right for a single and the ball got past the Moses Lake rightfielder allowing all three runners to score.

Hayes was pinch-ran for by Justin Viele of Santa Clara and Viele advanced to third on a groundout by pinch-hitter Miles Kizer of UW, and then Viele scored on a wild pitch.

Starter Evan Brock of UC Irvine tossed 5 innings and gave up three runs (two earned).

Reliever John Pecoraro of San Diego State pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win.

Closer Mitch Patito of UC Riverside registered his second save as the frosh right-hander tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

The Knights led 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, but with two-out and men on second and third Brock unleashed a wild pitch tying the game and then catcher Corey Davis of Mt. Hood CC allowed the go ahead run to score on a passed ball.

With the win, Corvallis improves to 5-7 in the WCL and 8-7 overall.

The Knights committed 3 errors and allowed two unearned runs. Moses Lake also committed 3 errors in a sloppy game.

Corvallis looks to take its second road WCL series on Thursday night. Kyle Kraus (2-0, 1.29) of University of Portland is slated to start as the Knights and Pirates face-off in the series' rubber game at Larson Playfield.
