Corvallis shuts out Kelowna 6-0 to sweep road series. Knights have won 22 of last 23.
July 8, 2009Junior right-hander Steve Kalush of Santa Clara tossed seven scoreless innings to earn the win. And relievers Ben Guidos of Washington and Eric Young of Riverside CC pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth, respectively, to record back-to-back combined shutouts vs. the Falcons.
Kalush is now 2-0 and has yet to allow an earned run over 19 2/3 innings pitched while walking only 3 and striking out 18.
Steve stifled Kelowna, allowing only 5 hits while walking none and striking out 4.
The Knights scored six times on only six hits. All six hits were collected by third baseman Doug Cherry of University of Washington and shortstop Richie Jimenez of Riverside CC as each infielder banged out three hits.
Cherry scored three times and Jimenez knocked in two runs.
With the win, Corvallis improves to 25-4 overall and 19-4 in the WCL West.
The Knights head to Wenatchee on Friday to face the East Division leading AppleSox. The three-game set between the league's division leaders starts Friday night at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium at 7 pm.
