Reliever Quijada impressive in Knights' debut.

Lefty reliever Hazahel Quijada stuck out three of the six batters he faced in his Corvallis debut on Wednesday night in a 4-2 loss to Kelowna at Goss Stadium.

A sophomore-to-be at UC Riverside, Quijada threw 1.1 innings of shutout ball after spelling starter Grant Goodman (San Francisco) with two outs in the sixth. He ended his stint by striking out the side in the seventh.

Kelowna (6-4 WCL) scored three times in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and even the series at a game apiece. It concludes at 6:40 p.m. Thursday; Grand Canyon righty Jacob Wong (0-0, 1.28) will start for Corvallis (6-6 all, 5-6 WCL), opposed by Pierce College freshman Leif Strom (0-1, 3.60).

The Knights were held hitless for five innings and trailed 1-0 when they broke through in the seventh to temporarily tie the game. Andy Atwood (Oregon State) singled with one out, took second on a ground out and then scored when he never stopped running on Kyle Nobach's (OSU) single to deep short.

Kelowna scored three times in the eighth for a 4-1 lead. The Knights responded in the home half with a run on Cody Hawken's (Portland) RBI double but they could get no closer.

Goodman allowed a solo homer and three singles in 5.2 innings. He struck out six, walked one, and got seven outs via ground balls. He has allowed just one run in 10.2 innings over three appearances this summer for a 0.83 ERA.

Atwood singled twice and has now hit safely in five straight games since joining the club on June 10. He was 2-for-4 on Wednesday, raising his average to .421 (8-19).

Thursday is Block 15 Thursday/Downward Dog Night. The first 100 fans receive a free hot dog from The Downward Dog.

Wednesday's crowd of 961 raised the yearly attendance to 5,341 for three dates. That is 484 fans ahead of last year�s record total of 49,656 through a corresponding number of openings.
