Elks win finale 6-3, capture series over Knights.
August 7, 2014Dalton Kelly (pictured) singled twice and had an RBI on Thursday but the Knights lost 6-3 to Bend in their regular-season home finale.
Michael Lucarelli singled twice and Kevin Kline had the other RBI for the Knights. Bend ended their nine-series winning streak by winning the final two games of the series after the Knights had cliched the South Division championship by taking Tuesday's opener.
The Knights (38-18 all, 33-18 WCL) had not lost back-to-back games since falling to Wenatchee on June 23-24. They had not dropped a series since losing 2 of 3 to the AppleSox on June 27-29.
The Elks (30-21 WCL) maintained their one-game lead over Wenatchee in the battle for the league's wild-card playoff berth. Tony Roque drove in four runs for Bend with a bases-clearing double in a four-run fifth and a single in a two-run seventh.
Corvallis opens a three-game series at Medford at 6:35 p.m. Friday. The regular season ends Sunday; the division playoffs begin Tuesday, with pairings still to be determined.
Thursday's crowd of 2,463 raised the season total to 41,933 in 32 openings. That's 373 less than 2013 in a comparable number of home dates; the Knights drew a franchise-record 43,557 fans last summer.
