Knights drop 2-1 pitching duel to host BlueJackets.
June 28, 2013Knights' starter Jacob Schroeder (pictured) and reliever Elliot Surrey gave up just two runs but they mustered nothing on offense in a 2-1 loss at Kitsap on Friday night.
The BlueJackets (5-15 WCL) scored an unearned run in the last of the ninth to win. They loaded the bases off Surrey with one out on two singles and an infield error. Vince Sablan then drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to left field on an 0-1 pitch.
The Knights (13-10 overall, 12-10 WCL) mustered just six hits in losing a series opener for the seventh time in eight chances this season. They scored an unearned run in the first inning and then could not score again against starter Spenser Watkins and reliever Ryan Taylor.
Corvallis had two runners throw out at home. The second came in the top of the ninth, when Seth Heck was retired while attempting to score from first on a two-out double by Cody Lenahan.
Schroeder allowed one run in five innings, on his wild pitch. He allowed six hits, struck out four, and did not issue a walk. Surrey allowed two hits and had three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Blake Drake singled twice and was the only Knight with more than one hit. Peter Van Gansen had the Knights' lone RBI; Lenahan's double and a triple by Gus Craig were their only extra-base hits.
The series resumes at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Silverdale, Wash. Right-hander Colin Feldtman (0-1, 4.86), a BlueJacket in 2011 and 2012, is the Knights' scheduled starter.
