Corvallis picks up 32nd win, beats Tacoma 7-4.

The Knights pounded out 12 hits on Sunday afternoon including a two-run triple by Nick Akins (pictured) of Riverside CC. Corvallis erased Tacoma's early 4-1 lead by scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth to knot things at 4-4. Akins plated the two fifth-inning runs with his two-out two-run triple and Rocky Gale of University of Portland tied it with a clutch two-out single in the sixth.

Gale went 3 for 5 on the afternoon with two runs scored and 2 RBI. Rocky started the game at catcher and moved to shortstop later in the game.

"It was good," said Nick Akins of today's game. "I hit a change up when I hit the triple. I was trying to hit a ground ball."

Corvallis took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth as the Knights scored three runs. Jim Murphy of Washington State delivered the game-winner with a RBI triple to right-center scoring catcher Erik Ammon of OSU from first base. Gale followed with his second RBI single and Gale would score on a Matt Wyckoff single.

Akins saw his first duty at second base since the pre-season. Jordan Post of PLU was the Knights' starting pitcher. Post went 5 innings.

Third baseman Clayton Shaw of UP relieved Post and tossed two scoreless innings. Centerfielder Matt Wyckoff of George Fox finished on the mound for Corvallis. Matt threw two hitless innings to pick up the win. Wyckoff also went 2 for 5 as a hitter.

Jim Murphy of Washington State came off the bench to play third base and went 2 for 2 with a game-winning RBI triple.

Frosh-to be Greg Peavey at Oregon State played the entire game at first base.

JR Murphy of San Diego State got a rare at bat and played a couple innings of centerfield.

Early in the game, Drew Garcia of UC Riverside made the defensive play of the game at shortstop.

Infielder Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC and outfielder Braden Wells of Oregon State got the day off and utility man Brett Casey of OSU rested a sore big toe.

"I sprained my big toe," said Brett Casey. "I'll be fine, but it hurts."

With Sunday's non-league victory, the Knights improved their overall record to 32-15.

Tuesday, July 31, Corvallis greets its division rival the Kitsap BlueJackets. The top two teams in the West get their three-game series started at Taylor Field and finish the series with games at Goss Stadium on Wednesday, August 1 and Thursday, August 2.

On Agriculture Day brought to you by Linn-Benton Tractor, young Chase Fortmiller (age 10) hung out with the team, took grounders with Drew Garcia and hit in the cage with Rocky Gale.
