Corvallis evens series with Sox. Knights win wild extra-inning affair 6-5 at Wenatchee.

Jordan Post's (pictured) homer and Jake Roy's baserunning lead Corvallis to a 10-inning victory at Paul Thomas Sr. Stadium. Knights' southpaw Matt Way of Washington State allowed his first runs of the season in the first inning as the AppleSox took an early 3-0 advantage. Way settled down and pitched 7 strong innings allowing only two earned runs.

Corvallis staged a rally in the 5th scoring 4 runs to take a 4-3 lead. The fourth run was courtesy of a double steal pulled off by outfielders Jake Roy of Dakota Wesleyan and Matt Wyckoff of George Fox, Wyckoff stealing home and Roy second.

Post hit his first homer of the season leading off the eighth inning.

Way was apparently lifted for Kyle Cruikshank of Golden West College in the bottom of the 8th with a 5-3 lead. However, plate umpire Randy Sutton would not allow Cruikshank to enter the game. AppleSox broadcaster Eric Granstrom indicated that Cruikshank was not on the Knights' lineup card therefore he was not eligible to pitch. With Cruikshank unavailable to close, head coach Matt Dorey turned to Friday's probable starter Kevin Castner of Cal Poly SLO. Castner gave up a lead-off double to Sox star third baseman Hawkins Gebbers. Dorey immediately replaced Castner with Mike Cusick of Western Oregon. Cusick was removed from Monday's game because of a tender arm, but the right-hander from Salem, Oregon came back strong after giving up the lead in the 8th. Wenatchee scored 2 runs to tie, but Cusick pitched out of trouble to escape the 8th and tossed a scoreless ninth and tenth to earn his first win as a Knight. Cusick punched out 4 straight AppleSox starting with the last out in the 8th and finishing with the side being retired in the ninth all via the strikeout.

Roy was the hero in the 10th as he stole third with two outs and scored the winning run when the catcher's throw got away from Gebbers.

The Knights hard fought 6-5 win sets up a rubber match Wednesday night with the two-time WCCBL champion AppleSox. The series finale can be heard on 990 AM The Legend. Game time is 7 pm. KTHH will pick up KPQ's feed for a third and final time Wednesday. Starting Thursday night in Spokane, Mike Parker, the voice of the OSU Beavers, will bring you Knights play-by-play.

The Sox drew a season high crowd of 1,435 Tuesday night.

Tuesday's game was the longest of the season at 3 hours and 23 minutes. It was the Knights first extra-inning game of the year.

Corvallis improved its overall record to 13-4 and league mark to 9-2.

Frosh second baseman Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC went 3 for 3 to raise his season batting average to .293 (12 for 41).
