Moore, Gorton lead Knights to sweep of Gems.

Corey Moore (pictured) had three hits, three runs and two RBIs and Ryan Gorton had three hits and drove in four runs in a 9-4 win over Klamath Falls and a sweep of the series.

The Knights' (32-15, 30-15) 16th win in their last 19 games maintained their four-game lead over Bend in the West Division of the West Coast League. They lead third-place Cowlitz by six games, with nine to play. Corvallis has won six games in a row.

The Knights had 14 hits and even pulled the hidden-ball trick on an unsuspecting Gem to end the third inning. Shortstop Trent Oleszczuk made the tag after a double.

"I didn't even know what was going on," said Moore, the second baseman. "I threw the relay to Trent, and he and Max (pitcher Max Beatty) had it planned."

Tempers flared briefly when each team threw a purpose pitch well over the head of an opposing batter in consecutive innings after the hidden-ball play. Both benches were warned; cooler heads prevailed after that and the game was completed without further incidents.

"We got into it for a while," Moore said. "We were all tired after yesterday's doubleheader, and I thought we came out with good energy."

Moore was hitting .279 before Friday; his 3-for-5 night raised his average to .293.

"With runners on base I was looking to swing early," he said. "With my last at-bat, I was just looking a pitch to drive," and he hit a ball deep to left field that the Gems errored on, leading to another run by Moore.

Gorton has 13 RBIs in his last seven games and had nine in the series and has 14 overall. Beatty got the win and tied for the WCL lead with six victories.

The Knights host Bend at 6:40 p.m. on Saturday; lefty Dylan Stuart (2-1, 1.24) is the projected starter. Corvallis concludes the homestand at 12:35 p.m. Sunday against the Elks; righty Chris Johnson (4-0, 2.10) is the probable.

A Cap Night crowd of 1,314 raised the season total to 31,356 in 24 home games. The Knights will shatter their all-time mark of 31,536, set in 2009, against Bend tonight.
