Knights sweep AppleSox at Goss. Corvallis extends winning streak to 6 by beating Wenatchee 5-1 in camo jerseys.

Doug Cherry of University of Washington played a stellar third base and went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Cherry delivered the game-winning hit in the second as the junior-to be at UW stroked a bases loaded single to center scoring Kyle Stalker of Willamette and D.J. Johnson of Mt. Hood CC.

Stalker started the rally by getting hit with two outs. Johnson followed with a double to right. Cherry singled after Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC drew a walk to load the bases.

The Knights plated a third run when shortstop Richie Jimenez of Riverside CC singled in Hogan.

Corvallis got another strong pitching performance from southpaw Liam Baron of Linn Benton CC. Baron went six allowing 4 hits and one unearned run to pick up his fourth win of the season.

"The first two games were huge pitching duels," said Baron. "I was at a great point when I came out and we got a big win against the team leading the other division. It was a big adrenaline rush for me to be out there against them for the sweep."

The Knights struggled to get things going in the middle innings and Wenatchee was able to push a run across in the sixth to cut the Sox deficit to 3-1.

But in the eighth the Knights scored a couple of insurance runs. Junior-to be centerfielder Adam Melker of Cal Poly started things off with a walk. Melker advanced to second on a groundout by Burg and moved to third on a base hit by Stalker. Matt Wyckoff of George Fox pinch-ran for Stalker and stole second base.

Then Melker scored and Wyckoff moved to third on a balk. With one out, Johnson plated Wyckoff on a ground out giving the Knights the 5-1 lead.

Baron tossed six innings to earn the win. Eddie Orozco of UC Riverside threw the seventh allowing only one hit. And Taylor Starr of Oregon State finished the game earning his league leading seventh save of the season. Starr pitched two innings allowing no hits and no runs.

Cherry led the offense going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

"I think the win really sets a tone knowing that we just swept them in three games," Baron said.

Corvallis came into the series 12-18 vs. Wenatchee over 8 years. The sweep is the Knights first over the Sox.

With the win, Corvallis improves to 27-11 overall and 24-9 in the WCCBL. Wenatchee drops to 18-15, but still leads the East. The Sox have now lost 8 straight while Corvallis has won 6 consecutive games.

Junior-to be outfielder Logan Lotti of OSU leads the team in average (.354), runs (26), hits (45), doubles (11), homeruns (4), total bases (72) and RBI (21).

Corvallis drew 2,016 for its three-game home series with Wenatchee.

The Knights head to Arcata, California to play long-time non-league rival Humboldt at Arcata Baseball Park Monday night. The Crabs feature Oregon State players Dale Solomon and Michael Miller. Game time is 7:00 pm.
