Knights crush Cowlitz 11-5 for 9th win in a row.

Left fielder Nick Torres (pictured) of Cal Poly had three hits and three RBIs to lead Corvallis to the comeback win at David Story Field.

The Knights (13-4 WCL, 13-4 overall) scored three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to erase a 4-3 Cowlitz advantage. The second of Torres two doubles drove in two runs in the eighth inning and capped the rally that cemented the Knights' ninth win in a row.

It's their longest such streak since 2009, when they also won nine straight from July 14-24. They now lead second-place Bend by 2.5 games in the West Division of the West Coast League. Third-place Cowlitz (4-10) is 7.5 games back.

Nate Blackham, Nate Roberts, Chris Rabago, Matt Nylen and Greg Mahle added two hits each; Mahle and Nylen had two RBIs. Every Knights starter had at least one hit or one RBI.

The Knights led 3-1 after two innings; Torres and Mahle had RBIs and a third run scored on an error. But double plays ended several scoring chances and the Black Bears temporarily edged back ahead with single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings off of starter Dylan Stuart and reliever Kyle Hart before the Knights charged back in the final three innings.

The series concludes at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday. Bryan Granger (0-0, 0.00) of Cal Poly is Corvallis' projected starter; Cowlitz's pitcher is undetermined.

The Knights are idle on Thursday and then host the Ports of WCL Portland in a non-conference game at 6:40 p.m. Friday. It's a $1,000 Dash for Cash night for children 12 and under, presented by All Family Vision Care. It's also our annual Scout OverKnighter, brought to you by the Boys Scouts of America.
