Knights bang out 13 hits in 10-3 win over Cowlitz.

Marc Gallegos (pictured) doubled twice, drove in two runs, scored once and stole a base for Corvallis on Wednesday in a 10-3 rout of Cowlitz.

The Knights (7-5 all, 6-5 WCL) ended a two-game losing streak. They erupted for 13 hits one night after managing just four in a 3-1 loss in the series opener.

Grant Melker of San Diego and Kevin Kline of Dixie State each had hits and two RBIs, Scott Quinlan of UC Santa Barbara added two hits and an RBI and Michael Lucarelli of Portland singled twice and scored twice for the Knights.

Pitcher Derrick Mahlum (2-0) of PLU was the beneficiary of the offense and he stymied the Black Bears (7-4 WCL) on three hits and one run over five innings, with four strikeouts. Austin Sodders (2.1) and Merrick Patito (1.2) combined to protect the big lead over the final four innings.

The Knights scored in the first inning on a walk to Melker, a double by Gallegos and Kline's sacrifice fly. They made it 3-0 in the second on Melker's two-out, two run single.

Gallegos doubled again and drove in two runs in the fourth to send the Knights ahead 5-0, knocking Cowlitz starter Jake Dahlberg out of the game. Kline greeted reliever Scott Serigstad with an RBI single for a 6-0 lead.

Quinlan's RBI single made it 7-0 in the fifth. Joe Duffin and Jackson Soto had RBI doubles in a 3-run sixth that made it 10-1 and removed all doubt about the eventual outcome.

The series concludes at 6:35 p.m. Thursday; Cal Poly's Justin Calomeni (0-0, 0.00) will make his starting debut for the Knights, opposed by Shane Bieber of UC Santa Barbara in a matchup of Big West Conference freshmen right-handers.

The Knights' next home games are Friday, Saturday and Sunday against the Kelowna Falcons, coached by former Knights� player (2006, 2008-09) and assistant (2010-11, 2013) Billy Clontz.
