Hawken drives in five, Knights top GreyWolves 7-6.

Cody Hawken (pictured) doubled twice and drove in five runs on Wednesday night to lead Corvallis to a 7-6 win over Gresham and their third consecutive series victory.

A sophomore-to-be at Portland, Hawken blasted a three-run double in the third inning to give the Knights a 3-2 lead. He added another RBI double in the fourth to give the Knights a 5-4 advantage, and a sac fly in the eighth for a key 7-5 edge.

Hawken has two doubles, a triple, three runs and is hitting .500 (3-6) in the series, which concludes at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.

"I just try to stick with the same approach every game," Hawken said. "Sure enough, I got in the situations to hit and capitalize.

"I was a little cold before I hit the triple yesterday. This is kick-starting things and I hope I can ride it out."

Third baseman Greg Saenz (Grand Canyon) added a double, two singles and a run, giving him eight hits in his last three games. He is 8-for-13 (.615) in that span, raising his average 60 points to .206.

Andy Atwood (Oregon State), Zak Taylor (OSU) and Roman Garcia (San Diego) each singled twice and scored and Andrew Reichenbach (George Fox) doubled and singled. The Knights had four doubles and 15 hits and every starter except one had at least one safety.

The Knights (38-19 overall, 31-19 WCL, 13-10 second half) extended their winning streak to seven games in row, their longest such streak of the summer. They are averaging five runs a game over that period.

"The last couple of games, we have talked about just trying to get the offense started as soon as we can," Hawken said. "Anytime I can fill that role and get things rolling so we don't have a game go to the wire like today," he will.

Tanner Howell (Dixie State) threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and got the win. Trenton Dupre (Washington State) walked in a run in the ninth but earned his fourth save by inducing a fly ball to center field for the third out, leaving the bases loaded.

The Knights then close the regular season against the Cowlitz Black Bears this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at David Story Field in Longview, Wash. The divisional round of the playoffs begins on Tuesday.
