Knights rally, top Cowlitz 7-5 for 10th win in a row.

Portland's Matt Kelly (pictured) drove home the winning run with a ninth-inning squeeze bunt and Corvallis rallied to defeat Cowlitz 7-5 on Saturday for its 10th win in a row.

The Knights loaded the bases in the ninth on one-out singles by Michael Farris (UC Riverside), Andrew Reichenbach (George Fox) and Cody Hawken (Portland). Kelly's squeeze then scored Farris for a 6-5 lead.

Greg Saenz (Grand Canyon) then beat the relay on an attempted double play to knock in an insurance run. The two tallies in the ninth were the first runs allowed by Cowlitz reliever Austin Dick this summer.

Closer Chase Kaplan (Kansas in 2016-17) pitched two scoreless innings and earned his second win of the season.

Farris continue to emerge from a lengthy slump by recording three hits. Hawken and Saenz, who have also swung hot bats in August, had two hits and an RBI.

The Knights' (41-19 overall, 34-19 WCL, 16-10 second half) 10-game winning streak is their longest of the season. They have also won four series in a row.

Corvallis scored three runs in the first for the second night in a row, on a wild pitch and RBI singles by Zak Taylor (Oregon State) and Hawken. However, they failed to add on and Cowlitz used five unanswered runs to take a 5-3 lead into the eighth.

However, an RBI single by Kyle Nobach (OSU) and a two-out error enabled the Knights to score twice and pull even in the eighth.

Corvallis starter Craig Colen (Cal Poly) allowed three runs on four hits in five innings. He had five strikeouts and retired 12 Black Bears in a row over one span before allowing two homers in the fifth that enabled Cowlitz to erase a 3-0 deficit and deadlock the game.

The teams conclude the regular season at 7:05 p.m. Sunday. The projected starter for the Knights has not been determined; Kevin Baker (2-3, 4.00) of Portland will pitch for Cowlitz.

The South Division playoffs begin on Tuesday, when Corvallis visits Yakima Valley in Game 1 of the best-of-3 playoff series. UC Irvine lefty Cameron Bishop will start for the Knights.

Game 2 is set for 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at Corvallis. Game 3, if necessary, would be played at 6:40 p.m. Thursday. The WCL Championship series starts Aug. 13.
