July 13, 2007The Knights dropped their second straight at home and Wenatchee continued to master its rival. The AppleSox took advantage of two one-out walks and an error to score three in the final frame and give the Sox the series opening victory. With two out and men at second and third, Vinnie Catricala of University of Hawaii lined a two-run single over Knights' second baseman Brett Casey to give the Sox the 4-2 lead.
Reliever Kevin Castner of Cal Poly SLO got into trouble by issuing two, one-out walks and by allowing back-to-back two-out RBI singles. Rightfielder Kyle Cruikshank of Golden West College misplayed Catricala's two-RBI single for an error allowing Vinnie to advance to second. He would score the Sox 5th run on Curtis Van Wyck's single to center.
Corvallis pitching, hitting and defense were suspect on Albany Night at the ballpark. The Knights four pitchers walked 6 and gave up 11 hits. Corvallis had 9 hits, but couldn't muster a big inning. After six straight games without an error, Corvallis made three errors Friday night.
WCCBL All-Star first baseman Jim Murphy of Washington State and third baseman Drew Garcia of UC Riverside both went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI.
Wenatchee is a win away from winning its sixth consecutive series vs. the Knights.
Starting outfielder Jake Roy of Dakota Wesleyan did not play due to injury. He is day-to-day.
Erik Ammon of OSU was scratched from tonight's game with a slight hamstring pull.
Centerfielder Braden Wells started Friday night after sitting out the last two games with a bad back. The OSU senior-to be turned 21 on Friday.
