July 26, 2007JR Murphy of San Diego State tossed a gem and shortstop Josh Hogan (pictured) collected two hits as Corvallis picked up a game on third place Bend and stayed within a half game of Kitsap. Murphy tossed six innings allowing only two hits and one run while striking out 8. JR earned his second league win.
"I was throwing sliders," said Truckee's finest. "I let the spin work and it was effective."
Hogan of Mt. Hood CC ripped a RBI double down the third base line in the 7th to give Corvallis a 3-1 lead.
"I don't think it was bad," said Hogan of the Riverhawks pitching. "I was just seeing the ball and following what they were throwing."
Jim Murphy of WSU scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the sixth. Murphy doubled and advanced to third on the throw to the plate that nailed outfielder Jake Roy trying to score from first on the play.
Reliever Mike Cusick of Western Oregon tossed two scoreless innings to hold the lead and Kyle Cruikshank of Golden West College closed the Hawks out to earn his 8th save of the season.
Wenatchee hammered Bend 17-5 and Kitsap beat Kelowna 5-1 in other West action.
With the win before 845 Knights' fans, Corvallis won its 30th game of the year. The Knights improved to 22-13 in league.
The Knights go for the sweep on Saturday night.
