Knights win home opener 1-0 before crowd of 419.

Matt Wyckoff (pictured) singled home the winning run in the eighth to give the Knights their first home victory in Corvallis and a series and league opening win over its archrival the Bend Elks.

Knights pitching held the Elks in check as starter JR Murphy of San Diego State and reliever Brett Brunner of Pacific Lutheran University combined for a shutout. Murphy delivered his second consecutive scoreless start as the junior right-hander has now thrown 14 innings without giving up a run. The Elks Paul Dickey of Lower Columbia College stymied the Knights, but the right-hander couldn't solve Wyckoff. The sophomore left-hand hitting first baseman went 3 for 4 with the game-winning RBI. His single scored Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC from second. Hogan got on base with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch.

The final attendance for the home opener totaled 419.

The Knights and Elks play game two of their three-game series Friday at 7:05 pm. Jerad Thompson of Mt. Hood CC is the Knights' probable starter.

Richey's Market American Legion will face the Eugene BI-MART Challengers before the game. The legion game starts at 3:30 pm.
