Granger quiets Cowlitz in 3-1 Corvallis win.

Starter Bryan Granger of Cal Poly allowed four hits and one run over seven innings, while striking out 7 in the Knights' 10th straight victory.

He left with the game tied 1-1, but got the win the Knights (14-4 WCL, 14-4 overall) went ahead with two runs in the top of the eighth. He is 1-0, 0.75 in two appearances, with 11 strikeouts in 12 innings.

Reliever Greg Mahle struck out the side in the eighth to protect the lead. Longview native Taylor Starr pitched a scoreless ninth for the save in his first appearance since joining the team late last week.

A two-run double by Nick Torres broke a 1-1 standoff in the eighth. It was the third double in two games for Torres, a freshman from Cal Poly who had five RBIs in the series.

The Knights had runners on base in five of the first six innings but could not score. Their best chance was in the third, when Nate Blackham hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play with runners at the corners.

Cowlitz scored in the fourth and kept that lead until Corvallis finally tied the game 1-1 in the seventh. Marc Gallegos singled, stole second, went to third on Alex Michaels' infield single and scored on Dane Lund's safety squeeze.

They went ahead to stay on Torres' key hit in the eighth and held on for their fourth win in four games at David Story Field this season. Corvallis remained 3.5 games ahead of second-place Bend in the West Division pennant race.

The Knights are idle on Thursday and then host the Ports of WCL Portland in a non-conference game at 6:40 p.m. Friday. It's a $1,000 Dash for Cash night for children 12 and under, presented by All Family Vision Care. It's also our annual Scout OverKnighter, brought to you by the Boys Scouts of America.
