August 6, 2014Kevin Kline (pictured) knocked in the Knights sole run as Bend snapped Corvallis seven-game home WCL winning streak.
Bend (29-21 WCL) evened the series as three pitchers limited the Knights (38-17 all, 33-17 WCL) to four hits. Corvallis scored in the first inning on Kline's RBI single, but it did not advance another runner past second base.
Corvallis brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth after a leadoff walk to Dalton Kelly (UC Santa Barbara) and a one-out walk to Jackson Soto (West Albany HS/Oregon State in 2014-15). But Bend closer Louis Cohen got the final two outs for his eighth save.
Grant Melker (San Diego) scored the lone run for Corvallis. He walked leading off the first and then stole second and third base before Kline (Dixie State) knocked him in.
Bend tied the game in the third inning on a two-out RBI single by Nick Osuna. It went ahead to stay in the fifth on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a bases-loaded walk.
The series concludes at 7:15 p.m. Thursday with the Knights' regular-season home finale.
Wednesday's crowd of 1,303 raised the season total to 39,470 in 31 openings. That's 1,668 less than 2013 in a comparable number of home dates; the Knights drew a franchise-record 43,557 fans last summer.
