Corvallis tops East leading Wenatchee 6-2 before a crowd of 905 at Goss.

First baseman Kyle Stalker (pictured) of Willamette sparked the offense going 3 for 4 with 4 RBI. Stalker is swinging a hot stick of late as the senior-to be is 6 for his last 8 as the left-handed hitting slugger went 3 for 4 on Wednesday night vs. Gresham.

"That was a fun baseball game," Knights' head coach Brooke Knight said. "Kyle Stalker came to the party tonight. He can wield a big bat when he gets hot."

In a battle of two of the top pitchers in the WCCBL, it was reliever Chris Brookey, a soph-to be at Southwestern College, who picked up the win as the southpaw threw 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

"We came out scrappin' tonight," rightfielder Logan Lotti, a junior-to be at Oregon State, said. "We came out today to play better than last night. The scoreboard tells all and it felt good taking it against Wenatchee."

Wenatchee took the lead early in the top of the third on a RBI single by Hawkins Gebbers of Biola.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cal Poly's Adam Melker hit a line shot off the side of Steve Ames of Columbia Basin CC for a base hit. Melker advanced to second on a single by Washington State catcher Alex Burg. Then, Stalker hammered a 2-2 fastball over the centerfielder's head, scoring both Melker and Burg, for a standup double.

The AppleSox tied it in the fifth as Gebbers delivered another RBI single knotting the game at 2-2.

With the score knotted, the Knights got things going in the sixth as Lotti doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a single to left by Mt. Hood CC leftfielder Billy Clontz.

Melker followed by laying down a perfect RBI bunt single on a safety squeeze to score Lotti.

Burg then advanced the runners on a sacrifice bunt before Stalker delivered a two-out RBI single scoring Clontz to give Corvallis a 4-2 lead.

In the seventh, Wenatchee threatened to score as with runners on first and second shortstop Chris Escobar singled to right. Lotti charged in, fielded and threw a strike to Burg who blocked the plate and tagged Curran Redal for the second out of the inning.

"That felt really good," said Lotti. "When I saw it come my way I was busting in towards the infield and I saw in my peripheral vision that he was rounding third. I knew I had a shot at him, so I let it loose."

The Knights scored twice in the seventh as Stalker singled home a run and Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC scored a run on a push bunt single.

Knights' starter Ryan Platt of UC Riverside threw 4 and 1/3 innings of two-run ball while striking out three.

Platt was replaced by Brookey who struck out one in his 2/3 inning of work.

Southpaw Josh Osich of Oregon State threw the sixth and seventh striking out two. Geoff Nichols of Oregon struck out two in the eighth and Anthony Carrillo of Long Beach State struck out one in the ninth.

"We had some good pitching at the end," Knight said. "Guys were more focused tonight and got us ahead."

With the win and a Bend loss this evening, Corvallis is 6 games up in the West. The Knights improve to 22-9 in the WCCBL and 24-11 overall.

The Knights look to win the series on Reser's OSU Beavers Night on Saturday night. Jon Berger (2-0, 1.42) of San Diego State is the probable starter.
