Kelowna thumps Corvallis 10-3 to win season series.

Knights' shortstop Nate Roberts (pictured) returned to action and drove in two runs but Kelowna rapped out 16 hits and won its fourth in a row over Corvallis to clinch the season series.

A senior-to-be at Seattle University, Roberts had not played since injuring his right wrist in a July 4 collision with left fielder Nate Blackham at Bellingham. He had two sacrifice flies and a walk in the leadoff spot, and handled seven defensive chances without an error.

"It's so tough to sit out," said Roberts, who led the West Coast League in RBIs at Moses Lake in 2010 before missing a substantial portion of the 2011 college season and virtually all of summer ball with the Knights with a broken hamate bone.

"People just don't realize how crappy it is to be sitting, watching your team play," and not being able to contribute. "I did all I could in the dugout to help, and did my rehab with Jeremy (Ainsworth), our trainer. Now I feel 100 percent.

"Tonight their starter did a good job of keeping us off-balance, and the first reliever did as well. It was a good night for them, you just have to tip your cap and come out ready to play on Saturday."

Second baseman Marc Gallegos singled twice to account for half of the Knights' four hits; his first single broke up a combined no-hitter by starter David Cagle and reliever Boomer Hermes with two outs in the sixth. Alex Michaels doubled and scored in the seventh and Connor Hofmann walked three times, stole a base and scored twice.

Fortunately for Corvallis (22-18, 24-18 overall), second-place Bend lost at Bellingham and remained 1.5 games behind in the West Division pennant race. However, streaking Klamath Falls pulled to within two games of the lead by defeating Walla Walla for its 17th win in its last 18 WCL games.

The Knights host Kelowna in a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday to conclude the season series. Lefty Dylan Stuart (1-1, 3.24) of UC Riverside will start the opener, RHP AJ Burke (2-3, 3.45) of Western Oregon the nightcap for the Knights.

Corvallis hosts the WCL Portland Ports on Sunday in the makeup of a June 22 rainout. It's All Family Vision Care $1,000 Kids Dash for Cash night.
