Eberhardt shines in extra-inning loss to AppleSox.

Reliever Sean Eberhardt (pictured) pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings on Friday night but the Knights fell 5-4 at Wenatchee in the rubber game of their first West Coast League series.

A rising junior at George Fox, Eberhardt relieved starter Jacob Schroeder with two outs and the bases loaded in the second inning, with the Knights behind 3-2. He fanned the first hitter he faced to end the inning and then blanked the AppleSox on five hits before leaving the game after the eighth inning.

Eberhardt struck out four and issued just one walk. A 10-day signee, he is 1-0, 0.00 in 9.1 innings over two appearances in the Knights' first four games in an impressive bid for a full-time spot on the staff.

Walks and errors in the first and final innings prevented the Knights from winning the series. Wenatchee capitalized on seven walks and two errors in those two innings to score five times on just two hits.

Four walks and an error by Schroeder led to the first three runs. Three walks and an infield error positioned the AppleSox to score the tying and winning runs in the 10th. It was Wenatchees second extra-inning win over the Knights in three nights; it also prevailed 3-2 in 14 innings on Wednesday.

A RBI double by Scott Stone sent the Knights (2-2, 1-2 WCL) ahead 4-3 in the top of the 10th. But walks to the first two batters in the home half gave the AppleSox (2-1 WCL) new life.

A sacrifice moved the runners to second and third, and the tying run scored on an infield error. An intentional walk loaded the bases and left fielder Taylor Stockton ended the game with a single.

Newcomer Seth Heck, Cody Lenahan and Mike Lucarelli all had three hits, Grant Melker two for the Knights. They had 14 hits, but stranded 11 runners, running their series total to 32.

The Knights start a three-game series at Cowlitz on Saturday; Mt. Hood CC ace Eric Huson is their scheduled starter. Saturday and Sunday's games will air on KLOO-AM 1340 because of a conflict with the broadcast of the Oregon State-Kansas State NCAA Super Regional on KEJO-AM, the Knights' customary radio home.

The Knights' WCL home opener is set for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday against the Kitsap BlueJackets on Big League Chew Opening Night presented by AmeriTrade at Goss Stadium.
